Please help me find a replica of a Hendrik Vermeulen wedding dress!!!

I am in love with a South African wedding dress made by Hendrik Vermeulen. It comes from his "La Vie en Roses" collection and the dress itself is called "Charme de Paris." It is around $3,800 and shipping would bring it even more COMPLETELY out of our budget! I am regrettably fairly particular and have not found anything that compares. However, I know there has got to be something out there that won't break the bank and is similar.

I really want a lace bodice and some sort of A-line silk skirt...I love the different textures and don't really want a dress made completely out of lace. I am also really trying to stay away from strapless dresses and beading:/

I am open to purchasing a used dress if it is out of my price range bought new. Our price range is around $1,500 give or take and I live in San Francisco Bay Area in California. I am willing to travel to L.A.

Any help would be SOOOO appreciated!

I'm not really any help because I have no idea where to find a dress like that but I just had to comment: it's so beautiful! Good luck!

There is a shop in NJ that makes custom/replica gowns at reasonable prices. www.weddingdressfantasy.com. If you really want that gown, definitely check them out. You can also find them on youtube to see the quality of their work.

    That dress is gorgeous ...

I found these that are sort of similar:

    1. Sottero & Midgley "Chantilly"

    2. Maggie Sottero "Symphony"

Thank you Donna for your reply, I will keep them in mind. Maybe there is a dress maker around my area. I am kind of nervous about having a dress made:/

There aren't many dresses that can give me dress envy, as I loved my wedding dress, but that dress definitely does it. It is GORGEOUS! I'm not help with any similar dresses but good luck.

Thank you Ashley S. for all your help! Those dresses are beautiful and pretty darn close. I just tend to lean towards no beading and a little more simple in the skirts. I can never pull off those looks:/

The only thing close that I have been able to find is this Watters dress "Escalante." Something about it just doesn't do it for me. I need to go and try it on.

I don't have the link to where this dress is from. I found it on pinterest but as soon as I saw your inspiration dress, this one came to mind. Might not be hard to find the shorter dress (or something similar to it) and then finding a seamstress or designer in your area to add the skirt! GOOD LUCK!!

Hey Chrissy, I live in the SF bay area too! I know there is a place in Oakland that does custom dresses, though I have no idea what their cost is http://sleighcustomdresses.com/contact.htm

There is also a woman in SF I have heard about, again not sure of price http://www.daniellethedressmaker.com/daniellethedressmaker.com/Home.html

    Good Luck!

I think your best bet would be to have a custom gown made, or have you considered buying separate pieces(a top and a skirt) or buying two cheap dresses and "grafting" the top of one to the other? That way you don't have to settle for a top that you like attached to a skirt that isn't what you want or vice versa.

I know on Etsy you can find and order lace bridal tops, and skirts would easy to customize and find. Put the two together and it should run you anywhere from a couple hundred to 1k only. You can probably customize the top to more of your liking as well like asking for a nude lining which I think your dream dress has. Just ask for a little extra seam allowance so you can take it to get tailored if need be.

Where did you find the dress that is similar with the big bow on the back? I, too, am in LOVE with this dress but can't afford it from South Africa!

    Hey Chrissy,

Here are a few that I've been looking at in a similar style (full disclosure, I'm not fully sure on the price points of these gowns, but they don't have to be shipped from South Africa!):

    Allure Bridals style 2558: http://allurebridals.com/Store_ProductDetail.aspx?pid=0DBcee2699290IIF22IB

    Paloma Blanca style 4065: http://www.palomablanca.com/2012/05/14/gowns-collection-style-4065/

Hello this monique llhuiller might be a good start. you can always have the lace top fitted and take out the tuftted skirt so the fabric lays the way you want it.
