Place card question?

Michella, on May 31, 2012 at 10:45 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

Ok, I have been looking at place cards online, trying to figure out what font I wanted to use and things. I have seen where if it's a couple that some put Mr. & Mrs. John Smith.

That is my question: With a couple do you put individual names on seperate place cards or do you put Mr. & Mrs. John Smith? If you do then how would you place the cards if you did this? I was originally going to place them on there plates. But with the Mr. & Mrs. where would the card go? In between there seats on the table? CONFUSED

Are you assigning tables or chairs? If you're assigning tables, then you put all the cards on a table near cocktail hour so guests will find their name and it will tell them what table to sit at. They choose a seat. If you are assigning specific seats then you need to make a seating chart so guests can find what table they are assigned to, then they will find their name at a seat.

If you want to save paper you can do Mr & Mrs Smith - table 2 and the couple can take their card to the table and pick seats. The only problem with this is if you're having plated dinner service and guests have pre-selected entrees. If this is the case you'll need to specify the meal choice on the card.

Both names on same card would be an escort card. It would go on a table at the entrance. They would all be alphabetized. They would find their card then find their table. You would be assigning tables, but not seats.

If you are allowing them to pick a meal, you would need one card per person so the staff knows what they are eating.

If you are assigning seats, and having the cards at their place you would need one per person. Also, you would need a seating chart so people know what table they are at to find their seating cards.

Ok, Thank you ladies. I will be asssigning tables and seating. I will have a seating chart also. I have a standing tri-fold picture frame (I painted it white with zebra print) I will put the seating charts in the middle 8 x 10 frames then the rest will have pictures of our family. On the tables I will have a place setting with the card placed on there plate. I am probably going overboard but I will have a window frame with the table layout to show them what table is where beside the seating chart (so they aren't going from table to table trying to find there table)

How many tables are you having? And are you numbering or naming tables?

If it's under 10-12 tables, and they're numbered, you won't need a map. If they're in order then guests will be able to find their way. If you're doing names, a map helps. Or have someone stationed at the table to help direct guests in the right direction.
