No tacks no tape! Please help with creative reception decor ideas

Danae, on July 28, 2014 at 10:26 AM Posted in Style and Décor 2 9

Hi everyone! So the venue I want to use for the ceremony and reception states absolutely no taping out tacking anything to the walls or ceilings. I've been trying to figure out exactly how I'm going to decorate whole adhering to the rules. I'm on a really right budget, so decorations have to be pocket friendly, and changing venues really isn't an option because the price can't be beat. I would really appreciate any and all ideas or advice. Thanks

Does it actually need decoration? Many venues don't.

Sometimes they will allow the command hooks because they'd don't eff up the walls. I'd ask about that if you have stuff you want to hang.

Most venues don't allow you to do anything directly to the walls.

Is there anyway you can look at photos of previous weddings that have been hosted in the same place to draw inspiration and see what worked and didn't work.

Uplighting can make a big difference to space. It'll cost a couple hundred of dollars depending on who you go with but sometimes your DJ can add it in to your package. I had it done in my DJ package and they gave me a huge discount.

Normally the venue manager can give you great insight too if you reach out to him/her. I know mine has been fantastic guiding me to the right vendors to speak to.

I am in the same boat- but our venue really does not need a whole lot on walls and such!

We are using pipe cleaners (this was a suggestion of the venue) to tie the decorations to the stair bannisters- easy on, easy off Smiley smile

They also said command strips were ok, although we are not going to be using them! Just leave the walls as they are and go with it!

I am in the same boat...My venue is a private beach house with the reception to be underneath the house...I am not able to tack or tape anything either...

I am using fishing line (or some kind of clear string/twine) and tying the decorations up! (not sure if that works with your venue, but an idea!)

I'm also in the same boat. We were advised command strips and hooks were acceptable, and that over-the-door and suction hooks were allowed as well because none of them cause damage.

Thanks guys, great suggestions. I think I'll talk to the people in charge. I have seen pics of previous weddings held there, looks like they just used the tables to bring in color. Hoping I can do more than that

You can make your own garlands and tie them to polls and window hinges? You can put some plants around (you can use later in your house or yard or give them as favors in the end of the ceremony) and you can use elegant balloon arrangements like arches or spread out ones that have weights.

Maybe get four post and string lights and fabric to each?

obviously this is an aisle but you get the idea.

I just discovered last night these DIY PVC frames that you can creat and then drape fabrics over then. PVC is incredibly easy to saw through and easy to put up and take down although I haven't priced out PVC yet. You just pressure fit each joint so no glue is needed. One blog just used ikea sheer drapes for $5 for two panels. So you can have multiple layers of drapping for a pretty low cost and then sell it later. Maybe even run lights behind for extra atmosphere. I'm going to do this for my head table and maybe a candy bar backdrop. There are some YouTube videos and images on google. I'm so excited for this discovery and I hope that it helps with your reception! Smiley smile.
