How did you write your wedding website? 1st or 3rd person

Amanda, on September 27, 2009 at 11:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

I'm trying to write out how we met and got engaged on our wedding site but I can't decided if I want to write it in the third person like "Ian completely surprised Amanda with his proposal" cause it seems like it would sound funny for our friends to read it like that. BUT I don't want everything to be from my perspective "I was so surprised when Ian proposed to me."

What did you do for your site? I was also thinking maybe a his side/her side of the story thing but that also seems like a little too much to read and does anyone really care THAT much? Plus then I'd have to get him to write the 'his side' haha

I'm really over thinking this! lol, HELP!?

Just my opinion...i'd write in the 1st person. I just think that your closest people who mean anything to you are reading this, like family, relatives and friends. It's more informal and personal when they read it, i think, if it's directed from you.

I did mine as I was writing it, not someone else in the 3rd person. But, you can do what you want...it's your website and your story! Smiley smile have fun!

I got the idea from another girls site of me writing my side of the story and my FH writing his side of the story. You are welcome to see ours if you like....

For our wedding website, I put the "Our Story" and "Bride & Groom" pages in the 3rd person... The other pages are all in the 1st person... Feel free to check it out! www.weddingwire.com/MelissaAndDan Hope that helps :-)

I used 1st person. Just seemed to be more personal to me.

Although I wrote the website, I didn't want everything to be about me, so I put the pages on which we were describing ourselves in the third person (the intro, our story, the bride and groom descriptions). On the pages in which we were talking to the audience, like on the reception and ceremony, registry, and other info pages, I said "we," as in, "as we were planning the reception . . ."

I wrote our website in 3rd person. I didn't want it to appear that I was the one writing the website and that my FH had no part in it. Even though I am sure most people know I was the one who put it together I didn't want it to appear that way.

Best would be to do it in the 1st person. But whatever you end up deciding just remember one thing... keep writing it the same way all the way through. I have seen people make the mistake of switching. Example:

"Joan and Bob are great videographers and ready to capture all your memories. We also do photography."

Do you see what's wrong with that? It switches in mid-stream.
