Did any of you go to your dress fittings alone?

Kathryn, on August 20, 2014 at 1:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

My BP is out of state or in a city too far away to drive for a 7pm appointment on a Tuesday. I wish I could ask my mom, but if you remember any previous posts about my mother, she feels I'm being a spoiled brat when I ask for her help or advice about the wedding or ask if they would mind help paying for a few things when my parents promised me $5,000 for the wedding. Every time I bring up money, I get yelled at, so I leave it alone. I took my mom when we went bridesmaids shopping and when I tried on a gorgeous hairpiece, she just looked at it and said it would look better on someone with different hair. So she and I haven't seen eye to eye and I don't want her to be there at my fitting and say something rude or mean while I'm happy in my dress. On the other hand I don't want to be alone. Unless thats quite common? Have you ladies been alone for fittings? I am torn!

I went alone for my final fitting. It was nice to be able to make an assessment on my own and pick out my final accessories without a bunch of opinions floating around from everyone else.

If you do go, bring lipstick and a hair tie with you! I knew I would have bold lips the day of the wedding so it was nice to see what the dress would look like with my hair up and lipstick on.

    Good luck!

I've gone alone for mine. If your mom might even hint at anything other than the fact that your dress is lovely, leave her at home. You don't need that stress!

Thanks girls! I was just certain that I'd be the only person without a freaking posse there. I wish I could have someone there to ooohhh and aawwweee at me but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way!

I've gone to my first appointment alone, and I will continue to do so. I don't need any unnecessary stress from family members bombarding me with their opinions.

Been to two alone and will probably go the the final one alone as well. Didn't bother me at all. I took photos to send my MOH who lives out of town.

I might go alone to mine. But then again maybe not. The salon is within 15 minutes of all of the people I would ask to come. I would want my friends there so they can be shown how to properly do the corset, but I don't care if they aren't there. I would just do a trial with them at one of our houses if they couldn't make it. But then again I'm the type of person who prefers to go shopping alone Smiley smile So that's just me. If you have a corset back or some type of bustle, the consultants do recommend you take someone with you who will be helping you get ready the morning of, just so they know how to properly do your dress. It's it's a simple zip up dress with no bustle, I don't see the need to HAVE to have someone there.

I went to all of mine alone. The lady was really nice and never asked me to bring someone else to learn the bustle (it was really simple so she showed me), and made it seem like it was totally normal for a bride to be there alone. . . in fact, I overheard her tell another bride who had her mother there with her for the fitting that her mom didn't need to come to the next one Smiley tongue

I did everything by myself. Even picking out the dress.

Yep, I went to all of them alone. I probably could have used another person to go to my last one. I asked a BM, but she was busy. I was paying half attention when she showed me how to bustle it. Come wedding day, we couldn't get it right. It would have been nice to have had someone else at the fitting watching her bustle the dress.

My family lives 2 hours away so I did it alone. I wish they could have been there, but if I had a mom that was going to criticize everything then I'd be happy to do it alone.

I've done everything alone except for with fh on 1 venue viewing and tasting, and my 1 in town BM came when I first tried on dresses. everything else has been all me. And I love it! Its nice to just make my own opinion and go with it. I'll probably bring someone to a final fitting, but that's it

I'm going alone. I get stressed when other people are there. I'd much rather it be just me and the seamstress Smiley smile
