I got married at John Marshall Ballrooms in May 2026, and it was truly amazing! The JMB team was wonderful to work with throughout the entire planning process and on the wedding day itself. They were responsive, flexible, and genuinely cared about making our day special.
The venue itself is absolutely beautiful and feels so different from a typical wedding venue. The food from their in-house caterer, Homemades by Suzanne, was also delicious, and we received so many compliments from our guests about it.
After touring venues all over VA, I can confidently say that JMB offers more support and flexibility than most places we looked at. They really go above and beyond to help make your wedding day everything you want it to be. I’d absolutely recommend JMB to anyone looking for a beautiful city venue and a great team to work with!

Exceptional Venue, Outstanding Service
The John Marshall Ballrooms was absolutely wonderful — I had a truly perfect experience hosting our event there. From beginning to end, everything was handled with professionalism and care. Communication was excellent; anytime I had a question, Kaitlyn responded quickly and helpfully.
I had several guest count changes fairly close to the event, and every time the team was kind, understanding, and accommodating. That flexibility meant a lot.
The venue itself is stunning — honestly one of the most beautiful spaces in Richmond. The food was excellent as well; many of our guests commented not only on how delicious it was but also how beautifully it was presented. Everything looked stylish, polished, and very aesthetically pleasing.
The staff was fantastic. Plates were cleared promptly, service felt seamless, and the bar service was great too. Overall, the entire experience exceeded expectations. Our guests clearly enjoyed themselves, and the beauty of the space combined with the level of service truly elevated the event.
I would absolutely recommend John Marshall Ballrooms to anyone looking to make their event extra special. Planning meetings, vendor coordination, and every step leading up to the event were smooth and enjoyable — they really make you feel supported throughout the entire process.

We loved the John Marshall!
We loved the John Marshall Ballrooms and their team so much! The venue is perfect for everything you need. It has naturally stunning and historic charm that makes it beautiful on it's own. We used the Marshall Ballroom which had incredible natural light that made everything look like a dream. The team is also wonderful. We loved working with Maria and Kaitlyn. It felt like they really cared about our wedding and all the details. They were very easy to get in contact with and followed up promptly. Their catering staff were also so professional and made the day so easy and so much fun for our guests. We got so many compliments about the food and drinks and on how nice the catering staff was! We wish we could go back and do the whole process over with them again.

Maria and Kaitlyn at the John Marshall Ballrooms were absolutely amazing. I was blindly planning a wedding without a coordinator until the last few weeks and they were unbelievably supportive, responsive and respectful. They listened, made suggestions and were so reassuring that everything would come together. And they were right. Our wedding day went seamlessly with almost nothing going wrong or out of place. Their attention to detail and putting things together was an impressive production. We wish the day hadn’t gone by so quickly, but it did because they made sure everything went as planned. They were so easy to work with and our day would not have been what it was without them. We are grateful we chose this venue and got to work with these two talented people. Definitely recommend as a venue for any event, weddings especially! We had our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception all these. Everything was wonderful!

Beautiful venue, wonderful staff, and delicious food!
Kaitlyn & Maria and the rest of the JMB team were fantastic to work with and we would highly recommend the John Marshall Ballrooms for your wedding (or event!)! We used the Marshall Ballroom for our ceremony, the lobby for our cocktail hour, and the Virginia Ballroom for our reception and it all worked perfectly. We also had our bridesmaids get ready in the guest suite and our groomsmen get ready in the club room which was super convenient. Being able to have everything in one location was incredibly convenient, and our guests commented about how beautiful everything was. The space set up perfectly for our event - the stage for the band was great, the dancefloor was spacious, the bars were conveniently located, and we had space to bring in an ice cream cart on top of plenty of beautiful tables for our guests. Kaitlyn & Maria were amazing to work with and answered so many questions for us quickly! They provided several high quality items for our wedding - including linens, easels, a card box, some signage, etc. - saving us money and making it so easy to prepare. We would also be remiss if we did not talk about how outstanding the food from Homemades by Suzanne was - from our tasting to day of, everything was absolutely incredible. Several guests commented along the lines of "wedding food is not typically good, but this is delicious!" Overall, the JMB was perfect for our wedding and we were so pleased with how everything worked out!

Outstanding Team, Flawless Event
We recently celebrated our daughter’s Bat Mitzvah at the John Marshall Ballrooms, and it was a night we’ll never forget. The team at JMB went above and beyond to accommodate the unique needs of an event that included both adults and children, as well as the special requirements of the milestone service itself.
Our guests are still talking about the food—especially the lamb chops, which were a big hit with the adults, and the cotton candy mocktails and mac and cheese balls, which the kids loved. The ballroom looked beautiful, and most importantly, our daughter had the time of her life.
From our first meeting with Maria, we felt confident that we were in good hands. She’s professional, knowledgeable, and truly took the time to understand what would make the event meaningful and memorable for our daughter. Kaitlyn was also wonderful to work with, and the entire catering staff went out of their way to make our guests feel welcomed and well cared for.

Day of our dreams
We had our wedding at The John Marshall Ballrooms, and it truly exceeded all of our expectations. From the stunning venue to the incredible team, everything came together perfectly and we were able to plan it all in just seven weeks.
A huge part of that was thanks to Maria, who was an absolute dream to work with. She made the entire process feel so easy and stress-free. Her responsiveness, organization, and positive energy made planning a wedding in such a short timeframe not only doable but enjoyable. We couldn’t have done it without her.
We also have to rave about the food. Homemades by Suzanne catered our wedding, and every single guest commented on how amazing it was. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and far beyond typical wedding food. Truly one of the highlights of the night.
A special shoutout to Anthony, who helped us the day before during the final walkthrough, making sure all of the tables and chairs were set up perfectly. On the wedding day, he was part of the catering team and did an amazing job serving. His professional attitude stood out, and we’re so grateful for his help.
The entire staff was cheerful, welcoming, and went above and beyond to make our day special. Everyone was smiling, helpful, and genuinely seemed to care about making the event perfect.
If you’re looking for a beautiful, historic, and elegant venue in Richmond with top-notch service and an outstanding team, we highly recommend The John Marshall Ballrooms. It’s a breathtaking space, and thanks to the wonderful staff, our wedding was truly unforgettable.

Amazing Downtown Elegant Venu
I can't give the John Marshall Ballrooms enough stars! It was a beautiful venue for our daughter's wedding reception. It could not possibly be easier to host a reception anywhere else. Onsite catering with linens and china provided makes things super easy. The venue itself is beautiful, so not much added decor is needed for a very classy presentation. Guests really enjoyed the food and the elegance.
But the very best part is the STAFF! Maria is stellar at her job. From the very initial consult to the petal exit, she was extremely helpful! Questions were answered quickly, and she had plenty of helpful suggestions to make the reception go well. She acts genuinely excited to be hosting your event, and she always makes you feel she has all the time in the world to assist you. Kaitlyn is also an excellent, friendly addition to the team. The day of the event, Marvin and Anthony could not have been more wonderful! They made us feel they could accommodate whatever we wanted and didn't even complain when they had to sweep up tons of flower petals at the end. You cannot find a better event team anywhere!

The Top Class of Richmond Venues
The John Marshall Ballrooms are first class in every way. Maria and her team worked with us on the smallest details over the course of our engagement. They were the first and only venue we toured. Once we had our initial meeting and they were available on our date, we did not need to look further! They provided excellent food and drinks that were incredibly delicious. They worked with us to customize our menu as well as our signature drinks to get everything exactly how we wanted it. In addition, the service was incredible. Worthy of a true black tie affair! No matter what we asked, as long as it was within their pre-established rules, they made it happen! The Hotel John Marshall is in the upper echelon of Richmond wedding venues.

A Love Fest to Remember!
Maria and the entire staff of The John Marshall Ballrooms made our dreams come true. From our first meeting to the wedding clean up, Maria and the team provided exceptional service. They went above and beyond to ensure that we had everything we needed to make our dream a reality including making a flower basket on the fly five minutes before the ceremony.
The venue itself is STUNNING, and the best part is they already had almost everything we needed - tables, dishware, linen, easels, and so much more.

The wedding of my dreams!
My wedding was held at The John Marshall and it was truly the best day of my life. Maria was such a joy to work with and made the planning process a breeze. She was quick to reply to my questions and did everything she could to ensure I had the event I’ve always imagined. The entire staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly and the venue was stunning and well-maintained. The food was delicious – we opted for static displays and action-stations during cocktail hour and everything was hot, fresh, and replenished promptly. The reception food was incredible – also served hot and timely. I could not say enough great things about my overall experience. I loved every moment of my wedding! Stunning venue!
The John Marshall Ballrooms was the perfect location for our wedding! The team was so kind and understanding when we were forced to postpone due to Covid restrictions and they were so helpful and patient with all of our questions along the way!

The JM is beautiful
Amy was incredible to work with while replanning my wedding three times due to COVID. She was patient and flexible, and the space was gorgeous! It’s so worth it to have their staff take care of the details like tables, chairs, and place settings; everything is beautiful and I didn’t worry for a second about the set up or break down.

We cannot recommend this venue enough! We had to change our date 3 times due to COVID-19. Amy was always willing to help in any way. She made the process seamless. She would always respond quickly to any questions that may have come up. We were able to have our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception at this venue and everything flowed effortlessly. Our guests were all very pleased with the venue and the staff service. I would highly recommend the plated meal, it was very smooth and COVID friendly for all guests in attendance. Amy and the staff were excellent and you will love working with them for your event! (Also, the food is A+)

Couldn't imagine our big day anywhere else!
We are so happy and feel so lucky to have gotten married at the John Marshall. From the very first time we toured it, Amy and her team have made us feel so welcome and at home when planning out our big day. The space is absolutely gorgeous, the food was absolutely delicious, and the staff helped us transform our wedding day into truly “us”! Amy always went above and beyond in helping us plan out our day and making sure that we were happy- and she even gave us the OK to have indoor fireworks for our first dance!! Our wedding day (and weekend) definitely wouldn’t have been the spectacular event that it was without Amy and the entire team at the John Marshall.

Couldn't have asked for a smoother day
I am so glad we went with this venue. It is beautiful, we were able to arrange validated parking in the heart of downtown Richmond for our guests, Amy took care of everything we would have to rent, and was so available to us. We were allowed to use the upstairs bridal room for storage the entire week before the wedding, which made the weekend much smoother because we didn't have to load/unload anything. Using the clubroom for the guys to get ready to was highlight for them, plus it was amazing not having to think about chairs/tables/linens, etc. Homemades by Suzannes was delicious, and the bar easily accommodated my requests for White Claws to be served. Highly recommend this as a wedding venue.

Amazing and Accommodating!
We could not say enough amazing things about this venue. Amy and the staff were incredibly helpful in answering all of our questions and offering suggestions. Being a gluten free bride with other allergies as well, I was concerned about the food for any venue or catering service that we researched or toured. The John Marshall put those concerns to rest, and they were able to make whatever we had asked for in order to accommodate the dietary restrictions. Everything was delicious, and all of our guests LOVED the food! They were on top of everything with a 175+ guest list. They made our day so special!

Wonderful experience with Amy and team
We visited numerous wedding venues but when we saw the John Marshall venue everything clicked. We actually didn’t look at the venue sooner because we thought the space might be too big for our small to medium-sized wedding (85 people). So glad we visited to scope it out because the space was perfect. We were married in the Marshall ballroom (front) and also had our reception there. Amy was always so incredibly responsive to our emails, patient with our questions, and extremely well-organized the entire time. She also has a great sense of humor! Our wedding day was perfect; everything was very smooth thanks to Amy and her team. The JM staff were gracious, happy and professional. They had an hour to flip the room in between ceremony & reception and it looked perfect. Our guests raved about the food and service. The elegance of the venue didn’t require much decoration — it lends a ton of class to the big day and provides the perfect backdrop for photos. Cocktail hour in the lobby gives guests more of a chance to experience the splendor of this building. We rented the club room to give out of town family a place to hang out and it also helped a lot for taking photos before the event. Making the venue even more perfect is that you can just get everything through there, no worrying about separate vendors for linens, catering, etc. My wife also appreciates the staff working to get her mother, who can’t use steps, into the building and ballroom. If you get married in the summer around 6 pm and in front of the front window, know that the sun will blind guests in the front row. We recommend you provide some type of shade, or have the seats back further. Otherwise everything was splendid and we will forever have great memories of our enchanting evening. THANK YOU!!

What can I say, our day was beautiful! I was so impressed with how fast email responses were taken care of by Amy, any question I had was answered promptly and thoroughly. They were so kind and let us have our dog in our bridal party as the flower girl, which was a huge plus. The food was very good (our dog stole a sweet potato ham biscuit during the cocktail hour because she just couldn't resist!). She helped us come up with a signature drink based on our pup. She also handled a last minute guest or two showing up and throwing off the seating chart by getting extra chairs and making room. I also had a minor breakdown about missing pens for the guest books and she went out of her way to help find me some (mine were eventually recovered - ahem groom left them in the car). The venue was absolutely gorgeous and we have stunning pictures. It's a bonus that it was all inside and we didn't have to worry about weather (even though we ended up having a beautiful day). There was also another wedding in the other ballroom the same day as ours (ours started at 4pm, theirs started at 6pm) and we honestly couldn't even tell there was another party going on because everything was staggered/separated perfectly to share the space as needed. 10/10 would do it again!

Dream Wedding
Just wow. The John Marshal is the place to go for a classic, romantic wedding. Amy was always available and responsive to emails and made the planning processes fun and easy. Homemades by Suzanne was absolutely delicious and she was willing to cook up anything for us! This venue was everything we can dream of and more. We booked the Guest suite for the boys to get ready in and the perk was having full access to the club room! We can't wait to get the photos back of the guys in there playing pool! When I walked into the ballroom on the wedding day, it was so much MORE than what we were expecting. Everything was included when you book this venue and Amy does a beautiful job setting up and decorating. While the cocktail hour was going on, my husband and I stayed in the bridal suite to take a few minutes to ourselves. Amy brought us up a plate of food each and a bottle of champagne. It was the perfect way to relax before the reception began. During the reception Marvin checked in on us and always made sure we were comfortable. The entire wait staff was kind and respectful, even to the guests. By the end of the night, Amy packed us a to-go food tray which was the perfect way to end the night on our way out. we enjoyed those treats back in our hotel room! Our guests are still talking about their experience and what a perfect day it was! Thank you Amy and everyone at the John Marshall Ballrooms!! You made our day perfect.

Stunning Venue with Amazing Staff
As soon as I saw the Marshall Ballroom at JMB, I knew I wanted to get married there. The venue is stunning and comes with every amenity you could want for a wedding - a bridal suite, beautiful lobby for cocktail hour, coat check, and large guest restrooms so there are never lines, but JMB really shines with the staff.
Amy is the venue coordinator of your dreams and is there every step of the way. I used the same ballroom for ceremony and reception, and Amy and her staff flipped the room with ease. The ballroom was gorgeous and JMB's house linens and decor looked amazing (and it's included for free!). I loved every moment of my wedding at the John Marshall Ballrooms and cannot recommend them more.

Incredible evening
Amy and her staff at the John Marshall were out of this world. They were so incredibly organized and helped make our wedding reception one we would never forget. The staff is so unbelievably kind, everything was flawless. I would highly recommend the JMB to any couple getting married. We utilized the Virginia room for cocktail hour and the main ballroom for dinner and dancing, I would not change a thing about the evening, it was perfect.

Perfect Venue!
The John Marshall Ballrooms exceeded our expectations and proved to be the perfect venue for our wedding. Amy went above and beyond as she was extremely helpful from our very first visit. She was always available to answer our questions, no matter how minor or last-minute they happened to be. The ballrooms and lobby are stunning and provide a classical and elegant atmosphere filled with Richmond character. The food and desserts were beautifully presented and delicious. To top it off, the entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful to our guests. Having access to the guest apartment and the clubroom for the girls and guys to get ready made the day stress free and enjoyable! We highly recommend the John Marshall!

Absolutely Incredible!
It’s always a tough task trying to find the perfect place to have your wedding. When my, now wife, and I first walked into the John Marshall Ballrooms we instantly fell in love and knew this was the perfect place to get married. The ballroom, stunning. The staff, incredible. The food, perfection. We had 140 people attend our wedding, most of them from out of town and from New York. We all know us New Yorkers know how to have a wedding and the John Marshall did not disappoint. Amy was fantastic and always readily available to answer any and all questions we had. If I could do it all over again I most certainly would and wouldn’t think about choosing any other venue. Everyone had so much fun. They even had a two bedroom suite we stayed at that night when the festivities ended. I can’t wait for our photographers pictures to come so I can relive the amazing day. I would highly recommend this venue!

Perfect venue in every way
We picked this venue for its location (walking distance to many hotels), giant dance floor, and convenience (provides tables/chairs/linens/etc/caterers! plus two very different but equally beautiful ballrooms that make for a seamless transition from ceremony to reception if you use both). It checked the boxes that were most important to us but went above and beyond in so many other ways: suggesting drink specials and making signs for them, allowing our dog to be a part of the ceremony (didn’t end up happening from our end, but it was an exciting thought!), letting us bring decorations in days in advance (as there were no previous events scheduled in the days leading up), having a two bedroom apartment to rent for + clubroom for groomsmen, arranging our giant cookie table (and making it look stunning!), having planned cocktail hour appetizers and drinks of our choice in the bridal suite for a quick moment away, not making us feel rushed to get out on Sunday, & last but not least the John Marshall Ballrooms has Amy! Who answered all of our endless questions in a timely and kind manner and helped us work through all of the above to truly make our day stress free and one of a kind. THANK YOU!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!!!!!!

Beautiful venue set in downtown RVA
We loved having this venue for our wedding for its beautiful interior, location in downtown Richmond, and included "packages" in booking the space. The John Marshall is an elegant venue rich in Richmond history featuring large chandeliers and classic crowning all around. We used both ball rooms and we loved every minute of it. Amy was a pleasure to work with and made sure our night was perfect. The food was wonderful everyone loved it!

Beautiful venue!
The John Marshall Ballrooms are so beautiful and unique! My husband and I were looking for something different since we are both in the hospitality industry and we immediately knew we'd found where we wanted to have our reception when Amy gave us a tour of The Virginia Ballroom. Amy is so helpful, responsive and accommodating, the food is great and we couldn't have imagined a better venue for our reception. Our guests had so much fun and are still talking about it!

Exceeded our expectations!!
Location was a prime reason we chose the JM. Our church is in walking distance. In hind sight, WE WOULD GO MANY MILES for this venue!! Everything went flawlessly for our wedding reception!!! Amy was very responsive and a pleasure to work with. There was another wedding in the building but most guests didn't even know. Homemades by Suzanne was fabulous and so delicious! As MOB I knew it was the perfect night when my daughter said before she left, "This exceeds my wildest expectations!!!". Pro Tips: 1. Book the apartment, great space, excellent natural light for photos, hair and make up. 2. Book the Club Room for the guys - ours LOVED it! 3. Book the Lighting Professors for the ballroom - they create the magic! THANKS again JM for a great event!!

Such a beautiful place and great team
I had my dream wedding here yesterday. Amy has been such a pleasure to work with. She’s very understanding and flexible. Also we feel in love with this venue the second we saw it. I wouldn’t have wanted to work with any other team or have my wedding any other place!

The John Marshall Ballrooms
My husband and I got married at the John Marshall Ballrooms a few weeks ago and we could not be happier with our decision. Amy Loving, the event coordinator for the John Marshall Ballrooms, was extremely professional and organized from the very first day we met her. She is accommodating to your schedule, communicates promptly, and is also detail-oriented. We received several compliments from guests on how cocktail hour and the reception were "flawlessly executed". We did not run into a single issue the day of the wedding and we have Amy to thank! We also received several compliments on the buffet dinner by Homemade by Suzanne. She had a wide variety of menu items to chose from and also offered a vegan option for one of our guests. If you are looking for a wedding venue in the heart of Richmond, this is the place!

Highly Recommend!
A huge thank you to the John Marshall Ballrooms for helping us put on a truly memorable wedding! As soon as we saw the space, we knew that it would provide a perfect flow between the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, and it was! The ballrooms are beautiful; the food from Homemades by Suzanne was delicious; and the ease in which the JM team handled everything was amazing.
From day one, Amy and the JM team helped ensure that our vision was executed flawlessly--from using a personal recipe for our his/hers cocktails to lending an earring back right before walking down the aisle, the team could not have been more accommodating and helpful throughout the whole process and on the big day. I can't tell you how many emails I sent to Amy worrying about all of the many details, and she patiently and quickly answered all of them, made sure I was comfortable with what needed to be done, and then handled everything seamlessly for the wedding.
We would definitely recommend the John Marshall Ballrooms to any potential bride and groom!

Beautiful, Classic Wedding Venue with Excellent Service
The John Marshall Ballroom was an excellent choice for our wedding! The Marshall Ballroom is beautiful with large windows and twinkling chandeliers. The food was delicious and just what we expected. Amy's communication was great! We always had answers to our questions quickly. We had even booked one date and had to change it due to scheduling conflicts with some family members. We worked with Amy to change our date without any hassle or extra deposits, etc. Amy and all the staff at JMB made the it a day to remember!

Gorgeous venue with sweet and helpful staff
We are so happy with the experience we had at the John Marshall ballroom. Amy was great at coordinating with us and helping us through the process of setting everything up and picking just the right food and drink for our wedding. They even went the extra mile to make a key lime pie for our cake because it's my husband's favorite! The space is beautiful and classic with a timeless grandeur that made the perfect backdrop for our pictures. I would most definitely recommend this venue for anyone and everyone!!

Perfect Wedding Venue
The Historic John Marshall Ballrooms + Amy Loving recently provided our family with a perfect wedding experience. From the outset, as well as throughout the planning process, Amy was responsive and helpful. No matter if the question was large or small, Amy deftly guided us with efficient answers and ample resources. The venue itself is stunning. With its perfect flow of spaces - to include the Marshall and Virginia Ballrooms with its gorgeous chandeliers, tastefully decorated lobby with multiple lounging areas, a grand staircase made perfect for those exit photos, spacious bridal suite and well equipped clubroom for the groomsmen - the John Marshall Ballrooms has it all. In terms of event execution on the day of, Amy and her team were tops. The combination of delicious food by Homemades by Suzanne, alongside flawless delivery by the service team, made our guests feel content and happy throughout the evening. Must pick place for your wedding
I couldn't have asked for a better/ easier experience. We came to the John Marshall about 7 months before our wedding. We met with Amy Loving and she showed us the entire venue. She gave us all our options up front and went through each of them thoroughly. Amy accommodated every financial concern we had and went above and beyond at fulfilling our dream wedding. She answered every crazy email I sent her within 12 hours. No later. I can't say enough amazing things about her.
And the food!!! Oh my gosh the food! It was so good!!!
The total we spent included both ballrooms (one for the ceremony and one for the reception) as well as the lobby for cocktail hour, open bar, and food for 90 people.
You truly cannot go wrong with the John Marshall Ballrooms!

Awesome Planner (Amy) and Food!
Amy is the BEST. She answers e-mails faster than anyone I know. She was always so nice and pleasant. She was on top of every little detail. She made my day nothing short of perfect.
The food was amazing! You will not be disappointed with anything on the menu! They completely forgot to bring out our food (The bride and groom) so we ended up not getting to really enjoy our food at the reception :-( , but it was awesome at the tasting and all of the guests loved it!

Thank you for the kind words. I am so sorry about your meals. I wish I had known that evening or sooner after to be able to correct/address it. I know that sometimes the staff will hold the couple’s dinner if they are walking around to guest tables in order to keep the meal warm. I recall placing your signature drinks on the sweetheart table under the beautiful arbor on stage but it is difficult to remember the details of dinner service with it being this far past. I feel our wait staff is very attentive to all guests, especially the newly married couple but I unfortunately have no explanation for the meals. I am very sorry. We would love to treat you & Cory to lunch when you are available! It was a gorgeous wedding and we all enjoyed celebrating with you, Cory, family, AND Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus 😊

Fairytale venue
The venue is stunning and when my selections were added it became a fairytale. Amy Loving was responsive and gently redirected me when my ideas wouldn’t yield the result I wanted. The staff was kind and accommodating the day before and day of wedding. The room was set exactly as intended. The venue was spotless. Our guest are still talking about how perfect the venue was. Truly a great representation of old school Richmond elegance. We’ve decided to host an annual Christmas Party at the John Marshall.

From the moment we walked into the Virginia Ballroom, we knew this was the place for our big day. The ballroom, as well as the lobby where we had cocktail hour, are stunning. The quality of the staff matches the quality of the building, with Amy Loving and team answering our hundreds of questions and helping throughout the year as we planned our day. The actual wedding day was a joy, and all of our guests commented on how wonderful the food was! If you want perfection, beauty, fabulous food and drinks and top notch professional service look no further than the John Marshall Ballrooms. The prices were very reasonable in our opinion for what we got. Planning the reception was the easiest part of the entire wedding planning process with Amy Loving at the helm. I send her so so many emails and she ALWAYS responded right away. I can't say in words how much she made this process so easy and was able to take care of absolutely everything I wanted to do. Amy is the consummate wedding professional. I felt completely confident with her in charge.
The staff was professional and expert at what they do. The signature drinks were fantastic, the appetizers fabulous and the dinner was delicious,. The salads were cold and the filet mignon and crab cake were hot. No one had to wait. Amy knew how many bartenders we should have and there were no lines.The tables were set beautifully .The lobby is so gorgeous and what a beautiful setting for the cocktail hour. The ballroom was so perfect for a near 200 person sit down dinner. The room was gorgeous. The dance floor very large . We did have a lighting company add some special touches and the room looked magical. Tables can accommodate 8-10 very comfortably. The standard linens, table settings and china are elegant as well as the chairs. No need in my opinion to go extra there. I wish there were more comments allowed here. A great bridal suite included to get ready the day of.

Amy Lovings and the entire staff at The John Marshall Ballrooms/Homemades by Suzanne made our wedding day one we will never forget. The space was beautiful and functional, the food was delicious, and the team was extremely accommodating. We used the Virginia and Marshall Ballroom, The Club Room, The Bridal Suite, and The Guest Suite. Each one was perfect for what we needed them for. The space was great for our 220 person wedding. It didn't feel too tight but it didn't feel empty either. The food was all delicious and we continue to receive compliments about it. The location is central to many hotels in the area making it simple for guest to get to and from the venue. I was hesitant about using a ballroom because I liked more of a unique look but with the amount of people we were expecting, it was difficult to find a space big enough for us. When I went to tour the JM Ballrooms, I was taken back with how beautiful the space is. It is bright, with a vintage feel. The space is so beautiful that it does not require too many extra decorations. The marble stairs leading into the lobby is beautiful. This space is worth checking out to see if it would work for your wedding. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an all inclusive wedding feeling with an amazing staff!

My husband and I celebrated our wedding reception in the Virginia Ballroom on July 14, 2018. We could not have had a better experience! We booked the John Marshall within a few weeks of getting engaged and began the year and a half of planning right away. Amy Loving and the staff at the John Marshall were always so courteous, willing to help, and easy to get in touch with. Amy immediately became available to answer our questions and provide us with ideas and tips. As the planning picked up as the wedding got closer, Amy was quick to respond to emails or set up a meeting for us to chat more. Each time I spoke with her or the staff members at the John Marshall I felt special, understood, and relieved. The John Marshall hosts many events and sometimes even multiple weddings on the same day, but there was never a point where I felt like “one of the bunch”. Our day was treated like the special occasion that it was. They were all quick to help us create a day that felt like ours and helped make late night food menu modifications to include our favorite food, TACOS! The tasting was so fun and the food on the day of the event was warm, delicious, and received rave reviews from our guests. We still cannot get over how smoothly the whole day ran. With the reception running so smoothly, we were able to focus on what mattered that night like our guests and enjoying each moment of the night. Amy and the staff worked with each of our vendors and were professional in all interactions. The John Marshall was my dream reception location with its tall ceilings, chandeliers, and grand décor. The ballroom photographed like a dream. I could not have higher praises for the John Marshall, Amy, or the staff and would recommend it to ANY fellow bride or person looking to host a special event. We are so thankful that we made the decision to have our reception at the John Marshall Ballrooms.

We loved our experience with the John Marshall Ballroom! Amy Loving was incredible from the start. She met with us and ensured that we were able to envision exactly how the day would go. She did a walk through with us before the wedding as well as a food tasting. Homemades by Suzanne made the entire event! People were raving about the food especially the ham sandwiches. My fiancé and I are so glad we selected John Marshall as our wedding venue because it set the whole tone for our special day! Once we stepped foot in the John Marshall, I think we both knew that was where we would have our wedding. The John Marshall Hotel is a historic venue that was fully renovated and has a grand ballroom and a smaller ballroom. The lobby is stunning with white marble and a large staircase, which makes for an excellent cocktail hour spot. We were lucky to have worked with their Event Planner, Amy Loving. Amy was very flexible and ensured that we were happy. She was very professional and stayed on top of everything so that nothing went wrong. The venue does way more than I realized when we started touring them. So much goes into the planning, organizing, coordinating for the wedding, but the most important part is the execution. Everything went so well and we will always recommend Amy Loving and the John Marshall for anyone having a wedding, work party, retirement party, New Year’s Party, or any event. The entire staff was so friendly. We want to add an additional note about the food, as well. If you book an event at the John Marshall, they have an in-house catering company called, “Homemades By Suzanne.” Before your event date, you will get a scheduled hour where you can sample various items that sound appealing from the menu. We received many compliments from our guests on the food and atmosphere!

We recently had our wedding reception at the John Marshall and could not be more impressed. From the very beginning Amy was accommodating and helpful at answering every question we had. She was in contact with us throughout the year of planning and made sure our timeline was perfect! The food by Homemades by Suzanne was incredible!! Our guests were quick to tell us how great they thought the food was. Setup was a breeze, the staff also cleaned up and set everything aside that we brought in, so the day after wasn’t spent gathering everything for hours!! We had such a fantastic, stress free day, and we couldn’t be more greatful! Thanks Amy & the JM staff!!

We were so impressed with the John Marshall! Amy Loving was very accommodating to our many requests. We were very glad we had rented both ballrooms, one for the ceremony and one for the wedding so that we could take over the entire space. Wonderful downtown wedding experience!

From securing The Marshall Ballroom, to answering every annoying question I had under the sun, and picking the menu, Amy Loving was wonderful in helping make sure our special day was perfect! Since our wedding, many of our guests have commented on how beautiful the space was, how great the food was, and how organized and professional the staff was the day of our event, and have said they will book for future corporate parties and many of my “hope to be engaged soon” girlfriends have commented on how they will keep TJM in mind for their big days!

I can't say enough good things about our experience with the John Marshall and Homemades by Suzanne! Amy and Emily were so nice and helpful! Many of our guests commented that the food was not "typical wedding food"--and it wasn't! We had MANY varied food choices to pick from when choosing our menu. The wait staff were incredibly kind and helpful throughout the reception, and they even set up a small private room with wine and appetizers for my husband and I so we were able to enjoy a few minutes together after arriving at the venue, before our grand entrance.

All I can say is WOW! The John Marshall far exceeded all of my expectations. It all started with working with Amy. She is simply the best. So easy to work with and extremely accommodating. She made sure every detail was exactly how we wanted it. And the venue itself: absolutely gorgeous! The food: amazing! People are still talking about how good the food was, from the appetizers to the main course to the late night snack bites. The entire staff was second to none and I could not appreciate them more. The location was also perfect. We could not have picked a better venue for our wedding!

We loved everything about our reception at the John Marshall. Amy and her staff were wonderful from the very beginning. She was responsive and organized throughout the entire process, and really made everything easy. The reception was great and the food was delicious! We highly recommend the John Marshall!

The John Marshall was the perfect venue for our wedding! One of the main reasons we selected the John Marshall as our wedding ceremony and reception venue was not only because the ballrooms are absolutely beautiful, but the John Marshall staff is top notch. From the very beginning Amy Loving exceeded all of our expectations. Amy was knowledgeable, professional, and was incredibly personable. She was incredibly helpful during the planning process and was always quick to respond to all of our questions. The rest of the John Marshall staff was also very professional and always on top of everything. The venue captures a historic, classic Richmond vibe and is just beautiful. It really was everything we dreamed. The John Marshall provided our linens, flatware, glassware, tables, chairs, and table numbers which was amazing! The signature drinks and food were delicious. Our guests are still raving about how much they loved the venue and the food! I would highly recommend the John Marshall to anyone who wants to have a worry-free and beautiful Richmond wedding!

My husband and I chose the Virginia ballroom for our wedding reception on 3/25/17 and we are so happy with our choice! Serving our guests good food was really important to me, and the food was delicious. Paired with the excellent service, it couldn't have been better (we received so many compliments!). Amy Loving was great to work with throughout the planning process and answered each and every question we had very promptly, and she was also extremely kind and professional. We had our cocktail hour in the lobby, which added extra beauty and character to the big event in the ballroom. We couldn't find another venue quite like it during our search and we're so pleased with our choice. We wanted to have a Richmond feel for our out-of-town guests, and the John Marshall definitely provided it. A "plus" is that the furniture (tables/chairs), linens, and dishes that are provided are very tasteful and neutral, so that is one less thing for the bride to worry about! Thank you John Marshall and Amy for such a wonderful experience that we'll treasure forever!!

Amy, along with the entire staff at The John Marshall was exactly what we needed/wanted for our wedding. We held both our wedding ceremony and our reception there. We had our wedding on a Sunday which allowed us the chance to utilize both of the beautiful ballrooms (Ceremony held in the Marshall room and reception held in the Virginia room) and have them both to ourselves. We'd chosen our venue while still living out of state so communication was a BIG deal for me. Amy's communication was top notch. She responded to any and every question that I had very quickly. She was professional, knowledgeable, and personable. The venue is absolutely beautiful and everything we dreamed; we didn't need to bring in lots of decor (Those chandeliers and large windows speak for themselves). Having linens, flatware, glassware, tables and chairs provided alleviated a stress for me which was amazing! The food selection that we had for both cocktail hour and our plated dinner was absolutely amazing. The service was certainly white glove level of service. One of the moments I remember vividly is coming in thru the back door...which I loved; Like a secret agent so no one could see me LOL and having Meredith take us (myself and the girls) up to the bridal suite to wait to be called down to start. The attendant that was there in the bridal suite (her name escapes me) made sure we had cold water and champagne and also made sure I was cool (she literally put my feet on a pedestal and positioned the fan to blow under my dress so I wouldn't be hot). That took the service to another level for me as soon as we'd gotten to the venue. Their willingness to satisfy your needs and their attentiveness to the guests was more than I could've asked for or expected. I would highly recommend The John Marshall Ballrooms for any event! They exceeded all of my expectations!

Everything about the quality and service from the John Marshall Ballrooms and as well as the Catering by Suzanne was superb.
The John Marshall was a perfect venue for our wedding. We used the lobby for cocktail hour. With the high ceilings, marble, and tasteful sofas and chairs, it was perfect for guests to relax and mingle. The ballroom is classic and a beautiful space with great architecture and chandeliers. The John Marshall includes tables, chairs, and linen which reduced our headache for planning. Bathrooms were spacious, large, and clean, easily accommodating our 130+ guests. Because no one had booked on Friday, we had the flexibility to set up some of our decorations ahead of time (instead of day of) which relieved tons of stress. The upstairs bridal suite allowed us to lock things up there before, during, and after.
The service was exceptional. Waiters were always present during the cocktail hour for food and drink and the staff during the seated dinner was on top of everything.
Our point of contact was Amy. From the beginning, and throughout the whole process, she was incredibly friendly, warm, and responsive. Her expertise showed as she offered up ideas and things to consider that ended up playing out really well. During the planning, she responded to our emails very quickly and had changes to our proposal done fast as well.
The food from Catering by Suzanne was extremely good as well. Our guests commented on the quality of the food and that everything came out in a timely fashion as well as hot! We went with the beef tenderloin (cooked perfectly), salmon, and zucchini noodle pasta. Everyone raved about the passed hor d’oeurves and that there was enough to go around. Instead of cake we did a pie bar which went over fantastically. Amy and her team had 5 incredible pies that our guests could choose from in a buffet style. We set it up so that people could mingle over there at various times and get pie, ice cream and coffee.

My fiancée and I started looking at venues beginning January 2016. We had multiple venues booked for walk-throughs with John Marshall Ballrooms last on the list. We fell in love with every venue we visited and were wondering how we were going to pick one. Luckily for us that decision was easily remedied when we visited John Marshall Ballrooms and Amy Loving, Venue Booking Coordinator.
First off, John Marshall Ballrooms is GORGEOUS! It was an old hotel that was visited by the likes of Elvis Presley and Elizabeth Taylor. It was recently renovated and the rooms turned into condos. There are two rooms available for rent. One large room that could be a concert hall and a smaller room in the front of the building. Immediately walking into the hotel, we safely assumed we could not afford it, but proceeded with our tour as we simply wanted to view the building.
Amy Loving greeted us with a huge smile and took us on our way. She is so polite, professional and her willingness to work with us made it love at first sight. After a short tour, we started going over pricing and realized that, to our surprise, John Marshall Ballrooms was within our budget.
To make a long story short, John Marshall Ballrooms / Amy Loving were AMAZING! It is without question the best venue we looked at and was priced along the same lines as the others. We can't imagine paying the same price for anything else. JMB was absolutely perfect in every way. The venue is absolutely stunning, the food is amazing, the staff was polite, professional and at-your-service. Amy Loving was always quick to respond with our nonstop questions. Even on her days off. I received an out-of-office reply from her on a question I'd asked and assumed I wouldn't hear from her for days. She responded within 10 minutes or so.
We are 100% in love with this venue, the staff and Amy Loving! Everything was perfect and we cannot brag about their level of awesomeness enough.

Amy Loving and the John Marshall Ballrooms were INCREDIBLE! We met with Amy back in 2015 and her bubbly personality and easy going attitude made it an easy choice for us! We used the Marshall ballroom which is the smaller of the two. It is GORGEOUS! The natural light from all the windows and the beautiful chandeliers...it's amazing. Amy answered ALL of our questions and trust me, I had a MILLION of them! and she was wicked quick with the responses via email. What i loved most, was that the catering was included! It made it so easy! We had a great time taste testing the food and the staff was professional and just overall incredible!! The food was spectacular...all of our guests made comments about how delicious the food was!!!!
I HIGHLY recommend Amy and the John Marshall Ballrooms to any future couples interested in getting married in Richmond!!!

The beautiful indoor venue is perfect for a wedding in richmond. They have it all. You can use the room to have your wedding and then walk across the lobby and have your reception. Great place to have photos, every detail is so easy. The food was a hit with all our guests and the staff was friendly and attentive. The best part is working with Amy loving who covers all your details and then actually makes it happen s planned. If I could give them 10 stars I would!

I give my highest recommendation to the John Marshall Ballrooms and Homemades by Suzanne. We had my Daughter's wedding and reception in the 2 ballrooms at the John Marshall and our expectations were exceeded in every way. Sarah Rodriguez was nothing short of amazing. She is wonderful and I highly recommend her. We had about 230 people and everything went smoothly. The surf and turf and veggie wellington were cooked perfectly. The butlered appetizers were plentiful, pleasing to the eye, and delicious. All the food came out at once and everyone had a hot meal. The servers were so efficient, professional, kind, and friendly. The open bar...... amazing!!!!! Signature drinks.... amazing !!!!!! Craft beers...... very appreciated!! Venue....... stunning. Dessert buffet ... delectable. If you want the "wedding of a lifetime", where you, as the hosts, can enjoy yourself fully, this is the place to be. It was a wonderful, stress free day. I absolutely loved this venue! I had my ceremony in the Marshall ballroom, which has beautiful natural light, and my reception in the Virginia Ballroom, which is very grand and makes and wonderful impression. Through the entire wedding planning process, The John Marshall Ballrooms and Homemades by Suzanne were extremely helpful and accommodating. I could not imagine having my wedding anywhere else. All the details were executed to perfection. Sarah, the coordinator for the JM, checked with my mother about every 20 minutes during the reception to see if she needed anything and if everything was to her liking. They are extremely professional and always quick to respond to emails and phone calls. I planned most of my wedding long distance so the great communication was key. With the absolutely gorgeous lobby and ballrooms, the excellent service and staff, and the Richmond history of the venue, this is the perfect Richmond wedding venue.

Amy Loving is fantastic at her job, she is quick to respond to emails! I must have emailed her 40 times during the 6 months I was planning my wedding and despite the fact that I probably asked the same question a few times, she was professional and answered my questions promptly. The service was amazing at the wedding, we got several compliments on how good the food was (we had a buffet). The meal at the wedding was amazing and even better than our tasting.

Having our wedding at the John Marshall was a blessing. We used the smaller of the ballrooms but the event was set up beautifully. Both the ceremony and the reception were held in the same room but the transition was seamless. Amy worked with us from the beginning, making several revisions for us and responding promptly to question we had. Parking was a concern for some of our vendors who had to pay so if we had to do it over again we would have got the optional parking reservations. Amy and her staff were very flexible. For example, my wife is Peruvian and we wanted a peculiar signature drink called Pisco. The staff put a Pisco sour (for her) and whiskey sour (for me) for our guests in two different types of serving glasses. In addition the catering staff was great!! They were very courteous to our family even when some boisterous family member told them they were making the Piscos wrong (the drinks were fine). We were very happy with the service we received from the John Marshall.

Amy, from the John Marshall Ballrooms, was very helpful in planning all the details. She was flexible as we made changes, giving helpful thoughts as to what layouts might work better for decreasing congestion during the cocktail hour and reception. We rented the Club Room for our cocktail hour which was well worth the price! There was another wedding the same night and this allowed the two groups to stay separate. Plenty of room for our guests to stand or sit. Tables to place food and drinks so they didn't have to stand and talk with their hands full. We had one guest bring a plus one without telling us, but the staff didn't even blink when we asked if they could accommodate this...they just quietly added another place at his table for her. Our guests commented several times that the food tasted exceptionally good. We made our choices based on an extensive tasting which was not only yummy, but fun!

5 stars! Amy and her team were AMAZING. The John Marshall was just perfect all around. The service, staff, venue, food - everything was on point. Amy is fantastic - so professional, responsive, and easy to work with. She's genuinely excited for each bride, and just wants you to be happy. The food from Homemades by Suzanne was DELICIOUS. All of my guests were happy with their food, which is hard to do!
I recommend the John Marshall Ballrooms to any bride, or anyone looking for an event venue with catering. Just perfect!!

I cannot praise the John Marshall staff enough! From the moment I first spoke with Amy, to dancing the night away with Hunter - everything about our wedding at the Ballrooms was phenomenal.
I was not one of those girls that always dreamed about how my wedding should be, or what fairytale I wanted it to look like. I'm fairly simple, and like life to follow that same path. Choosing which ballroom to have our ceremony and reception in, the food, and other wedding needs just went seamlessly. Amy was so good to me from January all the way to the date of our wedding.
We chose to have both the ceremony and reception in the Virginia Ballroom (we had a cocktail hour in the lobby as well as a photobooth setup to keep the guests entertained while the room was flipped and we took pictures). I just loved the idea of having a staircase to come down to make my entrance, and it truly was beautiful. The ballroom dance floor is HUGE! We loved it, and made sure to use up every space. The stage is also pretty big - our bridal party stood floorlevel, and my husband, the officiant, and I stood on the stage during the ceremony. Great for pictures!
Everyone that I have spoken to since, that attended our wedding, has raved about how delicious the food was, and how great the staff were to all guests. We will be going back to the JMB just so we can go to Suzanne's for lunch.
Ladies, if you want a beautiful venue with a charm all of its own - you will be more than satisfied with the John Marshall Ballrooms.
I truly cannot thank Amy, Hunter, and the JMB staff enough for helping with our beautiful day.

John Marshall Ballrooms & Homemades by Suzanne was an amazing vendor to work with. The Coordinator, Amy, was so sweet and helpful throughout the entire process. She was always very responsive when we had questions, no matter how close or far from the wedding date. We chose the Virginia Ballroom, which was beautiful and looked amazing once set up on our wedding day! We particularly loved having a grand entrance from the back staircase during our first introductions – and the crowd loved it too! All of our guests seemed to enjoy the food, both during cocktail hour and dinner. Lastly, having the cocktail hour and bar setup in the lobby was a great way to give guests some space when they needed a breather from festivities/dancing. In all, we could not have been more pleased that we chose John Marshall and they truly helped make our day a fairy tale!

We had our daughter's wedding reception in the Marshall Room and we could have not have been more pleased with how it turned out. From the beginning planning stages a year ago to the night of the event last month, Amy was wonderful! My daughter lives across the country and therefore planning a long distance wedding was not easy. Amy was constantly in touch with my daughter via email, making sure every last detail was exactly how she wanted it. The room was beautiful, the food (Homemade's by Suzanne) was delicious, and the staff was extremely accommodating, seeing to all of our needs. Our only complaint was music from a wedding in the other ballroom was very loud during our cocktail hour which was held in the lobby, and guests from that wedding were intermingling with ours. Otherwise, everything was perfect! A beautiful evening reception and exactly what my daughter envisioned for her wedding. Thank you Amy and staff for a truly memorable night my daughter and her husband will cherish for years to come.

Working with event planner Amy Loving was a joy - she was most attentive to our needs and interests, always available and most prompt to reply to our emails. The John Marshall Hotel exceeded our expectations, guests commented on the attentiveness of support staff, the beauty of the Virginia Ballroom, and the presentation of the delicious food. While we were aware of Homemades by Suzanne from her Ashland Restaurant, we were excited to learn she was the Hotel caterer and our hors d'oeuvre buffet selections did not disappoint! Our only regret is that we thought the strawberry lemonade was on our menu for our non-alcoholic guests - and it was not. We would recommend the John Marshall Hotel as a reception site without hesitation! Thank you for making our daughter & son-in-law's wedding, a day they will cherish for years to come.

The staff at the John Marshall Ballrooms (specifically Amy and Hunter) are absolutely incredible. They made planning extremely easy and always went out of their way to alleviate my stress as the bride! Communication was great as they responded to all my questions via email, if not within an hour, then definitely the same day. The venue included bar services, in housing catering, and all tables/chairs/linens/utensils. This all inclusiveness was very convenient since my fiancé and I lived out of state. Furthermore, the Marshall Ballroom is stunning! Great big windows and columns with huge chandeliers; perfect for any ceremony or reception. We had about 125 guests and everyone fit very comfortably. I would recommend the JM to any bride wanting an amazing wedding experience in the heart of the beautiful RVA!

The John Marshall was an absolutely stunning venue for our ceremony and reception. The front Marshall ballroom is just gorgeous with all of the original look and beautiful chandeliers. Homemades by Suzanne's food was so delicious. My husband was very particular about what he wanted and they were open to all of his ideas! Amy was also amazing to work with and was there to answer all of our questions within the same day via email! Such an amazing location and it will always hold a special place in our hearts!

Everyone was very helpful from Amy who first showed us the John Marshall to the wait staff the night of the wedding. The room was changed over from the ceremony to the reception setting so efficiently and it was beautiful. The food was great, we have had good reports that everyone enjoyed their meal.

JM is a beautiful and elegant place for a wedding reception. The food was delicious, service was fantastic, bar well stocked, and the venue was absolutely beautiful even that we kept the decorating to a minimum. It was wonderful to work with Amy, the event coordinator. She is very professional and makes sure the day is stress free for the bride. We couldn't have been happier with our reception and the services provided.

If it were possible to give higher than 5 stars, I would! Amy Loving made the planning and execution of this wedding reception seamless, flawless, and totally without stress. Her smile and calm demeanor kept this Mother of the Bride relaxed knowing that Amy had everything under control. She was there every step of the way - from the initial meeting, to the "tasting appointment" where we sampled foods, to the day of our event - Amy made sure that everything went according to plan. We feel so blessed to have found Amy and the John Marshall Ballroom for our daughter's big day. Unmatched customer service and incredible attention to details made for the magical reception that our daughter hoped to have. The wait staff during our seated dinner did an outstanding job of taking care of our guests - the food was delicious and plentiful. As our daughter and son-in-law said at the end of the evening: "IT WAS PERFECT!" And I agree with them wholeheartedly. I would recommend the John Marshall Ballroom (and Amy Loving) to anyone without reservation.
