Why not simply buy 1-2 minidv cameras from best buy and film the wedding ourselves?
This is a multiple part answer
a. Because it’s always a bad idea for friends / family to try and work at a wedding instead of enjoy it
b. Because our cameras are prosumer & professional level video while those store bought $500-$1200 mini dv cameras are consumer and simply outclassed.
c. Because we’ve invested over $15,000 in equipment & software and it shows in our result
Why have your wedding filmed?
It amazes me how 1 out of 4-5 weddings are actually filmed while 95%-100% are photographed. Yet if you had a choice of watching a well done video with multiple angles and cuts (professionally edited) vs photos from a wedding, I’d bet a much larger percentage would chose the video. Why is this, photographers cost more than what we charge. We spend about 15-20 hours editing and putting together your wedding on dvd...My best guess, wedding budgets quickly get too large, and video is normally not thought of until it is too late.
Why do I love doing this?
That’s easy, I love seeing weddings, I love capturing as much of it as possible in a beautiful story like video so when I meet with the bride / groom to deliver the finished product, I pull out my laptop and we watch it at a starbucks or somewhere with 2 sets of headphones (I’m addicted to starbucks). When working with photographers, instead of clashing or fighting for position, I do the opposite, I make sure if I’m filming something and the photographers aren’t there, I go out of my way to go get them. The couple is paying a lot of money to a lot of people for this event, not just us. Plus, this attitude benefits me, I make friends with photographers and possibly get more weddings to film!
