Tiki and I have worked together numerous times over the years. I call her both a friend and a colleague. Her creations are are always the best around. She truly loves designing cakes and pours part of her peaceful and joyful spirt into each cake she does. Weddings are once in a lifetime experience and a cake by Tiki's Tasties further enhances the joyous day.

I just wanted to give my endorsement to one of the area's premier cake designers, Tiki Suarez-Brown. You'll notice I didn't call her a "cake decorator", I said "designer", because that's really what she is. She's also a Ph.D., but if it were possible to have a doctorate in cake design, she'd have one of those too! I first met Tiki a few years ago while watching my kids play in Chik-Fil-A one day, and we struck up a conversation. She mentioned what she does and gave me a business card. After looking up her website, I could see how special her work was. Since then, we've had several chances to work together at weddings, and it's always a pleasure. Now, whenever I find out that my client has chosen Tiki as their cake designer, I know I'll find something very special when I arrive at the reception. I always plan to take time and shoot wedding cakes with natural lighting, because it produces the prettiest cake shots. When I photograph a Tiki cake, something very special happens as light and shadow fall across the cake. It's always a work of art! They're so pretty, you can't bear to stick a knife in them, but you just HAVE to taste them anyway! You're awesome, Tiki, and I'm looking forward to our next event together!

Tips and Advice
When should I contact my cake designer to order my wedding cake?

Plan to meet with your cake designer several months in advance (at least 6 months).  More reputable cake designers are booked well in advance, especially during the busy wedding (spring/summer) months.  It is best to call and set up an initial consultation as soon as possible.  This will give you an opportunity to sit down with your cake designer and formally discuss the details of your wedding cake.

What different types of flower decorations adorn wedding cakes?

Brides now have no shortage of options when it comes to designing and decorating their cakes.  Whether real, silk, gumpaste, fondant, or icing arranged flowers add the perfect touch to any wedding cake.  The latest flower trends for wedding cakes include gumpaste (also known as flower paste) and fondant (also known as sugar paste) flowers.  These elegant and delicate displays of art are made by hand.  They are often times colored to either portray the appearance of real flowers or to match your wedding.  In addition, these flowers can be lightly dusted with powered colors to deliver a softer than life touch.

What is fondant?

Fondant is a sweet creamy sugar paste that is used in candies and icing and is often rolled out and draped over cakes.  Its sleek satiny elegance provides a too-good-to-be-true icing look with smooth edges.  Its taste has a marshmallowy/chewy kind of feel in the mouth and is totally different from traditional buttercream icing.  Its texture is similar to play-dough however, food coloring and a variety of flavorings can be added to fondant for visual and taste appeal.

How are wedding cakes prices and what is included?

Cake designers generally either charge by the slice or price the cake as a whole based on the design and how many guests it feeds.  Some designers may charge an additional fee for intricate lacework, edible pearls or handmade decorations.  Other may include their fee in either the total cost of each cake or per slice.  Remember that there are multiple types of icings:  fondant, buttercream, etc. and they are also priced differently.  Be sure to ask about delivery, setup, support, personalization services and if there is an additional fee.  If you are renting any items such as a fountain, stand or tiers, understand how and when these additional items are to be returned.  Make sure you know what you are getting and that a contract will be prepared with the specifics.
