FAQs
Why does a video need to be edited? Why just not have the raw footage?
Your raw footage is available upon request. However, the edited documentary is the one that you will want to share with family and friends for years to come.
A wedding video is edited to keep your most essential, emotional moments in. You know that feeling you get when you watch a movie and the music is so powerful and the moment is so emotional that you feel moved by it? That's what your edited wedding video will feel like. We take the most memorable, and eventful moments of your day combined with the natural sounds and your favorite music to create a seamless documentary-style portrait of your day.
A well-edited video will flow smoothly from beginning to end combining all the best camera angles and emotional moments. Do you want your family and friends to fast forward through your wedding video or do you want them to watch with you, laugh with you and cry with you, and enjoy all the highlights of your wedding day? Our videos flow impeccably to create a final product that you and your friends and family will enjoy and remember for the rest of your lives.
What if my guests feel uncomfortable in front of the camera?
All of our videographers will try to remain as aware and unobtrusive as possible. During the wedding, the cameras will remain still on a tripod to the side and in the back of the venue. The cameras will not move around or distract you and your guests in any way. During the reception, the cameras will be mobile to catch the most important action at the time. By the end of the wedding, most guests will not even be aware they have been taped, and the rest will be enjoying it. Our videographers are constantly aware of their surroundings and if someone looks uncomfortable, we try to keep the camera away from them. Most often, your guests will get used to the camera and usually by the end of the reception will be having fun with it.
When you and your family are watching your wedding video ten or twenty years from now, will you remember the video camera being there or will you be watching your documentary and marveling at how absolutely stunning you and your husband looked on your wedding day?
What kind of equipment do you use?
At Melody Weddings we use only the latest digital equipment and technology. We utilize high quality 3-chip video cameras such as the Sony VX-2000 and the Panasonic DVX 100. These cameras have the ability to capture high quality audio and video with excellent clarity. We also provide the highest quality audio for your video using a combination of on-camera microphones to capture the natural sound along with wireless technology to capture your vows. A small, compact wireless microphone can be placed inside the groom or officiates pocket. This way we can shoot the entire ceremony from far away and still have high-quality audio recorded into the cameras.
Who are your camera operators?
Our camera operators all come from film and television backgrounds. All have at least 5 years experience in event videography and are working industry professionals. Our professional videographers have worked for MTV, NBC, Style Network, E!, FOX and all have related degrees in the film/television field.
How long will the finished video be?
Every wedding is different however most end up between 50 minutes and and two hours. Some factors that make a difference are. Your wedding is an hour long: Do you want to see the whole things, or do you just want to see the highlights? (the vows, the rings the kiss, etc.) These are things we can discuss and I will customize your video according to your tastes. In addition to your finished video, there will be a menu on your DVD of "DVD extras." This will be footage that did not ultimately end up in the final documentary. It could be Aunt Martha dancing with Uncle Ned for ten minutes, or the toasts that may have taken an hour. Those are there for your enjoyment.
Typically the final wedding documentary will include highlights of the following:
· coverage of pre-ceremony preparations (the bride getting ready, the groomsmen getting their corsages, the pre-photos)
· arrival of the guests, signing in, guests being seated
· the complete ceremony (or the highlights of the ceremony)
· all of the photo sessions with the photographer
· arrival at the reception
· all the first dances
· cake cutting, toasts, bouquet and garter toss
· tasteful, brief interviews with family and bridal party
· the best of the party dancing
· the final exit of the bride and groom
What kind of music do you use?
The edited video will include a combination of natural sound from your guests, the natural music from your activities (the first dances, etc.) and a variety of songs that you select for "music montages" throughout the video. I ask for 4-5 special slow songs and 3-4 upbeat ones. If you have a wedding CD, I can use that music, or you can give me a list of some of your favorite songs you would like incorporated in the video.
I want to have a photo montage for my rehearsal dinner. Can you do that too?
Just provide us with the photos and your music selection and we can create beautiful customized photo montage for you and your guests to enjoy. This can be shown at the rehearsal dinner and or at the wedding, and put on your final wedding DVD at your request.
What is your coverage area? How far are you willing to travel for my wedding?
Melody Weddings will travel anywhere in Southern California. If your wedding is somewhere else we will work something out for you.
