Describe your DJ style:
I have been mixing records for a decade, so I tend to play tracks with a strategy. I take the energy up and down by beats per minute and intensity while touching on all genres.
What is your usual attire?
I wear black tuxedo pants, socks, dress shoes, and a tuxedo shirt. A tie will get caught on my tonearm, so I avoid them. Do you have a color theme at your wedding? I will match it by bow tie or whatever you have in mind.
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
If a song is special enough for you to request it, I want it in my collection. I will buy anything I do not have. Just provide me the list as soon as possible so I can get to sorting my computer's 'record crates.'
How many other DJs do you work with?
I usually work alone, but I have many friends that are in the industry and many more who just mix records with me on days that end with 'Y.'
What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
There is no minimum time, but I will still have the same schedule for pricing unless we work something out. Most of the trouble is carting all that gear around, setting it up, tearing it down and loading it back up. Playing is the fun part!
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
I have met with all clients in person before my events, save for the insurance party where we conducted all communications by email and phone, and sent the deposit by mail. I prefer to meet at least once in person and prefer to remain in contact as ideas surface.
Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
I have a fairly extensive collection of latin, salsa, latin house, samba and bossa nova. I speak un peu francais et un poco espagnol, and I am willing to add anything to my collection for your event.
Do you bring your own equipment?
I own everything that I need to bring the party. Please let me know if we need a generator... everything else is covered.
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
I have all of the above... Please discuss any thoughts with me. There have been some pretty creative entrances in the past.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
I prefer two hours at a minimum just so I have a chance to relax after moving the heavy amplifiers. I can have music going in 17 minutes. I require nothing other than a power outlet.
Do you have any extra space requirements?
None other than the power outlet not being anywhere close to traffic. I can fit a small area with my standard setup. The vinyl setup does take a little more space with the turntables and truss system.
Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
Yes and Yes. I will gladly give the mic to a MC if you have someone in mind, but it is usually best to leave that to me for the general flow of things. I will get a feel for the couple and the kind of show they want. I prefer actively engaging everyone, making announcements of who requested what songs, etc. Dedications are fun for everyone.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
The wedding party is not required to provide my meal, but I would love to break bread with everyone. Please do not feel obligated to add me to your catering budget. Most caterers understand that other vendors need to eat and also love the chance to meet and show their cooking to another in the industry. Please let me know either way so I am prepared.
Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
I have backup music of all types that is perfect for any meal breaks, etc. The music will never stop unless requested (announcements, etc.)
What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
I always have backup plans for myself and my gear. I stay healthy so as to be well year-round.
What is your overtime rate?
$50/hour for Standard and Grand packages
$100/hour for the Vinyl package
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
Where are we going?
