Zika Virus

Ashley, on June 1, 2019 at 9:27 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 8
Is anyone that's planning their honeymoon questioning where to go because of Zika? I dont see many people worrying about it recently, however the CDC still recommends avoiding travel...

The only real concern is if you’re pregnant or trying to get pregnant. You need to wait 3 months until after you return before you should start trying. If you’re not pregnant and not planning on trying soon then it’s fine to travel to an area with Zika.

My MOH went on her honeymoon (pregnant) to Martinique. They didn't have Zika then. Research that island if you're interested.

We're not planning on becoming pregnant for a few years, so it's not really a concern for us, but if you are planning on trying right away than I would avoid place where there's Zika.

Totally in the same boat and I'm finding it frustrating to plan which is unfortunate. We want to go somewhere warm and tropical late December but most places the CDC notes that you can travel to but take precautions if pregnant or TTC. I asked my OBGYN about it and she goes off of the CDC's recommendations. We will be actively TTC in November/December as he will be home from a year long deployment. We both really don't want to wait the recommended 3 months to try so that limits us in options.

Maybe its because I'm a nurse and it feels like I'm always dodging something... Ebola, MRSA, Staph, TB, EColi, etc. but I'm not concerned about it. Were just going to load up on bug spray while were over seas.

Yes I agree. I am a new nurse, and I live in Florida where there are a lot of mosquitos and there have been previous case of Zika. So I go back and forth from somewhat worried to not worried. I just kind of wanted to know if other people were also not that worried. I ultimately decided that I am just going to load up on bug spray also. Smiley smile
