Zika Free Honeymoon Suggestions?

Lauren, on September 30, 2018 at 12:08 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 10

Hi all! My FH and I are looking to go on our honeymoon next August. Due to medical concerns, we can't go anywhere that still has an active status of the Zika virus. We are considering traveling to either Baja Mexico or going somewhere in Europe like Ireland!! We are struggling to decide between the all inclusive beach type vacation or the really unique adventurous one! We are trying to keep things under $2500! We would love suggestions from people who have been to either or to another really amazing (and zika-free) honeymoon destinations.

Thank you for posting this! I don't have suggestions currently, but this was something that I hadn't considered at all. I'm interested in hearing suggestions as well.

I would let you know plane tickets to England alone will run you for the entire budget you're wanting, so something to consider. Even I advance, the cheapest tickets are usual $1000 per person. Unless you have some military connection, then you could take a hop for like $10.

Mexico is super cheap and beautiful! You could definitely do that for $2500 with flights and possibly get an all inclusive package!

I did some digging and saw that the CDC has seen Zika in many regions of Mexico. My fiancé and I were planning to go to Aruba initially, but now we are going to the Bahamas. The CDC doesn’t show Zika activity there currently

    Hi there, Lauren!

I think it very much depends on what type of honeymoon you two are looking for! Are you picturing a honeymoon with you two relaxing on the beach? Or are you picturing you two exploring, trying new food, enjoying amazing views, etc.! I've never personally been to Ireland (I've been to Paris and Madrid if you are considering those two places!) but my boyfriend has and he said it's absolutely amazing. But I think a trip to Europe is definitely more itinerary based than a trip Baja! When I was in Europe, I felt like I had more of a "I'm in Europe want to pack as many things as I can into a day" type of vibe that didn't necessarily make for the most relaxing vacation, but it was certainly the most memorable!

Also, another consideration is that August is hurricane season for Baja! Just something to keep in mind while you're thinking about where to honeymoon!

I totally understand; we are looking for zika-free places as well. This recommendation is super far, but Sri Lanka is supposed to be beautiful. The flight is expensive, but doing stuff there is budget friendly. For Europe, you can find great flights in August for Greece or Sicily, which is where we got engaged. It is a beautiful country with DELICIOUS food! Good luck!!!!

My fiancé and I also want to have a Zika-free honeymoon. We originally were thinking Thailand, but now that’s out. The State Department has country-specific info on their website: www.travel.state.gov. You can search by country, and any travel alerts will be posted as well as other helpful information on traveling to that country/region.

Thanks for reminding me about hurricane season!! That is definitely something to consider. We both like to relax but we are both very adventurous people who aren’t nervous about traveling in different cultures due to our many experiences traveling abroad!

Have you considered somewhere in the continental US on your budget and avoiding Zika? As pps said, just your flights to Europe could cost a couple thousand. Where are you located?

Personally, I think all-inclusive is the way to go! Especially with a "once in a lifetime" type of vacation.. like a honeymoon typically is. It's just so nice to not have to worry about picking one thing over another due to cost, and to not have to carry money with you everywhere! So convenient.

According to my research and my mom's travel agent (yes, they still exist! lol) Bermuda and Bahamas are the two zika-free, tropical destinations. We are leaning towards Sandals in the Bahamas for our Oct. 2019 honeymoon.
