Your Favourite Readings or ceremony traditions?

Rosie, on April 18, 2021 at 10:13 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9

Hello lovely beings!

As we begin to put our ceremony together, I'm on the hunt for fabulous readings or traditions to include in our ceremony.

so far the nicest one I've found is the rings warming ceremony where the guests pass your rings around and hold them and kind of 'infuse' them with their good wishes and love etc, but I'm on the hunt for other things we could do, either instead of or as well as.

Also, readings-wise I really haven't found anything that particularly resonates. I thought it would be nice to have a reading that somehow represented us (him: heavily into sports [soccer and golf especially], me: heavily into coffee, rabbits and the colour pink, both: enjoy whiskey, wine and chilling on the couch) so if you've come across anything with a relevant slant in your own searches, I'd love to hear it!

Not sure if your looking for something religious or not but we’re doing a 3 chords ceremony. I found the most gorgeous board on Etsy and a great song to play while we are braiding our chords .

We're having 2 Filipino ceremony traditions incorporated since I'm half Filipino! They're the wedding cord and wedding veil ceremony. 2 sponsors are picked for each one, and they place the cord and veil over us. They both symbolize our partnership, and the joining of two families. We're also doing a hand blessing ceremony!

FH and I are both picking separate readings. I love to read, so I picked a quote from Jane Eyre.

“I have for the first time found what I can truly love – I have found you. You are my sympathy – my better self – my good angel; I am bound to you with a strong attachment. I think you good, gifted, lovely: a fervent, solemn passion is conceived in my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my centre and spring of life, wraps my existence about you – and, kindling in pure, powerful flame, fuses you and me in one. It was because I felt and knew this, that I resolved to marry you.”

I really like both of these, neither of them have anything to do with your subjects, but I LOVE the hands one, especially if you do a ring warming where everyone's hands touch the rings! We love our dogs and are thinking of adapting some of the stanzas to fit our situation more (no NYC reference since we are in a town of under 8,000). I think I just searched up unique readings for weddings. I also like the idea of planting a tree with soil from his parents house and mine!

As whisky lovers, you might appreciate the Quaitch ceremony.

And a reading with a coffee reference - I Wanna Be Yours

That sounds lovely! We aren't religious so all secular, but handfasting is lovely - plus both of our backgrounds have Irish/Scottish/General Celtic Whateverness in them, so it might be nice to include! I'll have to go find some pictures!

That's a good idea to each pick a reading! And maybe have a person from each side to read it!

Your Filipino traditions sound beautiful. I do love including cultural elements.

Your reading is beautiful too. My UK family don't live too far from where the Brontes lived and wrote so that would be a lovely touch, although I must admit reading Wuthering Heights in Highschool entirely put me off the Brontes - there wasn't a single likeable character among any of them!

Planting a tree is super cute! And the dog reading is one of the first ones I came across when I first started looking and is totally adorable.

And the blessing of the hands YAAASS! I found this after I posted here, and I agree, it's so lovely and would work really well with the warming of the rings.

I read about the quaitch ceremony! I'm thinking I might easily convince the husband of that one! We are actually getting married at a vineyard, so it might be nice to use some of their (white - just in case!) wine for this! I might have to see if I can get a hold of a quaitch!

I've seen the poet perform that piece on a UK panel show and he honestly is fabulous. He reminds me of Karl Lagerfield, just a little!

In the meantime I also found this coffee one by Dolly Alderton, which I love - I think it beautifully describes our relationship - thought I'd share in case anyone else is looking!

“I know that love can be loud and jubilant…I also know that love is a pretty quiet thing. It’s lying on the sofa together drinking coffee, talking about where you’re going to go that morning to drink more coffee. It’s folding down pages of books you think they’d find interesting

It’s saying ‘You’re safer here than in a car’ as they hyperventilate on an EasyJet flight to Dublin. It’s the texts: ‘Hope your day goes well’, ‘How did today go?’, ‘Thinking of you today’ and ‘Picked up loo roll’.

Love is a quiet, reassuring, relaxing, pottering, pedantic, harmonious hum of a thing; something you can easily forget is there, even though its palms are outstretched beneath you in case you fall.”
