Yacht Venue: What to ask?

Kimberly, on May 14, 2017 at 4:46 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hi Beauties, my DH and I are headed to check out two boat venues next week. Do you have any tips on questions to ask? So far we have their contracts and pricing, which includes menus and an open bar. I haven't seen much online about going this route so any help will be greatly appreciated. Also, have any of you planned a wedding far away from where you live? We are stationed in CA but from FL and doing our wedding there.

I would make sure to ask about bathrooms (how many, where they're located, etc). If you have anyone who requires assistance ask about accessibility. I'd ask about their course of action for handling guests who get seasick. If you want the captain to marry you, ask about that. Ask about their usual course and what happens if the current/ weather make it so that course cannot be taken. I'd get a list of recommended vendors- particularly photographers because the venue is constantly moving, you'll need someone who knows the boat and how to tackle quick lighting changes.

And make sure you have a DOC. I'm getting married on a yacht in March and I've had so many questions and my DOC has been incredibly helpful. Other than that ask all your regular venue questions. Good luck!

Thanks Danielle! Is your DOC part of the yacht company or someone completely separate? It sounds like they both offer something similar to a DOC but I'm not sure yet.

Those are definitely great things to keep in mind, especially the photographer. Finding one that is within our budget and taste is the next challenge on our list.

I'd want to know about the ceremony, if you're planning on having it on the boat. Usually it is done in dock because we need to have an actual address to put on the license.

Thanks Celia! One of the reviews of one of the boats mentions an emotionless ceremony done by the captain. That's definitely something pushing us towards the other option because we really prefer a more upbeat tone. That's definitely something we will now discuss next week.

LOL...(sorry). I remember doing a wedding on a boat in Jersey a few years ago. After the ceremony a few of the crew came up to me, along with the captain, to tell me how much they liked the ceremony, how it was so unlike the other ones, lol....(the captain didn't do it; not legal here....)

So of course I called the company to see if they would refer me, and they said, 'we have this guy", lol.....

I think the 'in dock' thing really works out well for a lot of reasons. As much as we all hate to admit it, there will be people who are late, so it does give you a buffer. Then you also really arent' obligated to invite the officiant to dinner, and you may find a bigger selection of us that would do it if we weren't tied into four hours....

Beautiful! I'd ask what their course of action would be if a guest had an emergency/needed to leave (if you're not just docked during the ceremony).

If docked the whole night I think both are beautiful choices. I personally get really sick on boats and the smell off the water while they are in motion. You have consider that you may have guests that are the same way as me.

Before you do anything, you should check with your VIP guests and make sure they're okay with a yacht wedding, especially if you plan to do it out on the water.
