Wrong information

Robert, on November 3, 2020 at 4:30 AM Posted in North Carolina Planning 0 15
I ask a simple question of wedding officiant and was given wrong information maybe they didn’t know or didn’t care want to be given information to contact immigration attorney for a US citizen that’s missing their identification is most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard when I was told that I couldn’t believe it so I checked with the register of deeds and found out that all I needed was to get a birth certificate certified and a notarized certified medical record from the local hospital that I have been in in January that could be taken to the department of motor vehicles and they would provideA photo ID which intern I could use to get a marriage license to be told to contact an immigration attorney for US citizen is demeaning unintelligent an out right wrong I am removing the application from my computer and phone because if that’s the kind of people that make up this website then I don’t want anything to do with it

Why would an officiant know anything about identification? They’re not lawyers or immigration officers.

They should at least be able to read and write and know the law for North Carolina about identification how to obtain it because it's needed for a marriage licence but to offer get an immigration officer is an ignorant statement

You could always “google” your questions too you know. Or ask friends and family members

Wedding officiants will probably tell you where you need to go for your marriage license, how long it’s good for and what makes a marriage legal in the state they’re licensed in, but that doesn’t mean they know anything about how to obtain an ID. That’s like saying a podiatrist should know you need glasses because they went to medical school.

Your wedding officiant should be able to do one thing... officiate your ceremony. They are not there for you to ask questions about immigration or your marriage license. If you have questions regarding that, contact your register of deeds office or look online.

It's not the officiants job to know laws regarding IDs. If you want legal advice, you should go to an attorney who specifically works in that area of law.

I understand your frustration but have to agree with the others. It really isn’t the officiant’s job to know about ID’s - their job is to officiate the wedding.

Read and write, yes. Know the law about legal marriages, yes. Know about how to obtain ID? No. From what I gather, in North Carolina you get your marriage license from the Register of Deeds office, correct? The officiant doesn’t have anything to do with the issuing of licenses or the ID requirements associated with that.

I understand that but when I ask a question I expect an answer rather than something like contact an immigration attorney . And if I am paying for a service like for a marriage officiant I expect that person to know the law and how it works I don’t think that’s too much to ask if you pay someone for a service is to have them give you precise information and a marriage officiant in the state should be aware of how and what it takes to get a marriage license don’t try to tell me that it’s not their job I realize that but it is their job to inform the people that contact him or her what
The steps are and what is required at each step maybe I am expecting too much but then again I am an ordained minister and perform marriages in other states and I’m used to getting the information for people to make their journey in life easier maybe it’s different for a marriage official in North Carolina I’m finding out that it is

For your information depending upon the county you’re in in North Carolina if you’ve lost all your identification and you need to get an identification the simplest way is to get a certified birth certificate copy number one number two if you’ve been in the hospital you can get a certified copy of any of the procedures or things that were done in the hospital from vital records at that hospital that certified copy along with your birth certificate and a piece of mail with an address with your name on it can be taken to the department of motor vehicles and a person can obtain an identification they can then take that identification todayTo the Commissioner Of Deeds obtain a marriage license after paying $60 and get married the next day I hope that brighten somebody’s day and let them know how to go through a process that most marriage officials should have a grasp on his part of the job to make the journey of the couple easier

So you’re a marriage officiant who didn’t know what you had to do to get replacement ID. Have you not just proved my point? A marriage officiant knows that you need a marriage license to get married, and that there are identity requirements to get that license. They don’t need to see your ID in order to marry you. All they need to know is that you have a valid marriage license. There’s nothing that says they should know how to get a replacement ID because ID documents are absolutely nothing to do with them. Do you expect your hairdresser to fix your car? Because that’s what it sounds like.

I'm just confused why someone created 2 separate accounts to argue this point within 1 conversation.
