Wrong colour illusion tulle on wedding dress - can it be altered?

Sarah, on March 14, 2022 at 3:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
I’ve just had my dress fitting and the colour of the illusion tulle is Ivory not nude and makes me look very pale. There are pearl embellishments on the dress and delicate lace detail, can a seamstress easily change this or not? Dress is mori lee Bernadette

Hm, after looking at the pictures of the back I'm really not sure about that. You'd definitely need to talk to a seamstress about it.

Did you order ivory and then realize that it wasn't a good color fit, or did you order nude and receive something different?

I originally tried it in the store with the nude netting, but when my dress arrived today (8 months later), it was with Ivory netting. Not nude. I’ve looked at my order form which says Ivory Ivory, which I’m now assuming is Ivory netting on Ivory lining, but that’s not what I wanted or tried on and didn’t know that’s what it meant when I ordered it.

The shop is going to look into it tomorrow, but with just 6 weeks until my wedding the only way I can find a solution to the issue is to change the tulle. But it’s just so intricate.

I would definitely bring it to a seamstress to ask what they can do. They might be able to add a nude netting. If there isn't anything they can do, maybe ask if the store is willing to exchange it for the sample dress that they have (assuming that the sample dress is exactly what colors you want)?

I wonder if you could use like a tanning spray or something to change the color in a pinch. I know its absolutely not ideal and you'd have to do a lot to protect the rest of the dress, but it might work.

Unfortunately it sounds like the shop didn't do a great job of clearly showing you through the ordering process. To answer if this is something alterations can fix- maybe? It might be doable, so it would be worth asking, but it wouldn't be easy or cheap. I worked in bridal for 3.5 years- this is on the shop. If they can't get you the correct color, I would ask if they're willing to cover the alterations to fix it.

Will keep my fingers crossed that there’s something they can do. Otherwise I feel the sample dress solution is the only other option. Not ideal when you wait 8 months for your brand new, costume made dress to arrive. Thanks for your help!

Really appreciate all these comments. There were other issues with the dress too, extra buttons that I ordered weren’t added, additional lining was added as expected, so I do feel very let down by the service I was given Smiley sad I just hope it can be sorted.

So I've never worked with Morilee dresses but most designers at that price point don't do customizations that detailed. For example, you can order extra buttons, but they get attached during alterations rather than before the dress ships to the store. The one usual exception is the length of the liner. No matter what, I would talk to the store because it sounds like there's been some serious miscommunications on their part
