Writing own vows

Kelci, on August 22, 2018 at 10:59 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10
I’m writing my own vows and have such a hard time thinking of what I should make sure to put in them. Any advice? My FH has his written already since this was his idea

Pinterest has great ideas...you might find inspiration then write from your heart!

We're doing the same. It was his idea also so his are all done but I need to finalize mine for October. I was just going to go from the heart. Good luck!

I've literally rewritten mine about 3 or 4 times. I'm having a hard time getting my thoughts onto the paper, dont want them to be too sentimental or funny or long. I decided to use one of my english writing tips and just wrote, forgot about grammar, spelling, punctuation and just wrote what came to mind. I was able to go back couple days later and pick lines that are a true representation of us, our journey, what he means to me and our future together. I'm not done, still have some revising to do, but it helped. Hope it helps you too, good luck!

H and I wrote our own vows, I googled formats for vows and like the PP said just kinda started writing from there then would go back every couple days to revise and restructure some. I wanted to keep them short and sweet with one joke in there because we are always laughing and messing with each other so that is naturally us. It took me about a month and multiple rereads before I said its good enough haha. Husband said he only revised his once they were perfect!

I’m the same way. I’ve written them 4 times so far. Thanks for the advice.

Remember that vows are promises. What do you want to promise to him as you begin this next stage of life with him? Try to think long term. I'd take a look at traditional vows and consider what it is that they are communicating.

I’ve got to do the same. It was his idea as well. And while I didn’t want to just go with plain original ones, I was just looking at other vows and going to piece and blend from those, but I guess since he’s wants us to write our own, I’ll sit down and write mine too. Bu I’ve got 6 months.
