I don't think that there's a set time. I guess just when you've said everything that you wanted to say

Your vows don't have to be that long. Try to keep them under 250 words. One simple template looks like this:

    1. Talk about how you felt when you first met.

    2. Talk about what your love grew to be.

    3. State your vow to be their spouse.

Just write one or two lines about each and you're done. Be sure to share your completed vows with your officiant to assure you're on the right track. Best wishes!

I'm writing mine too. I don't plan on it being more than a few minutes.

I think short and sweet is the best way to do it. You don't need to go over your whole love story because the officiant likely will cover that. I'm doing the 4 lines promises (vows to keep our love strong) and 4 lines about what he has taught me.

Eight lines; four of what you love four of what you'll do to keep your marriage strong. Don't ramble, don't retell your story, don't write things you can't say in public.

Keep in mind that when you get to your vows, the guests know the end is near. They love you but they're ready for wine.

There are samples and a "mad lib' vow generator on my pinterest page.

Our officiant said 150-350. Mine are 160 words. When I read them, it's about one minute or less. I have 4 lines about him being great and 4 lines of vows. FH on the other hand is at 450 words, which seems crazy long... Apparently he included musings about like marriage in general. I told him not to and to cut it down but he's stubborn.
