Wrist strap or dress pinning for long gown?

Christianna, on July 29, 2021 at 11:59 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

Hello! Just got my wedding dress (super last minute-- COVID wreaked havoc on my wedding plans). I LOVE the dress, but I'm not sure what to do about the length of the skirt. There are 3 layers: an inner satin one that skims the ground when I'm wearing my wedding shoes, a layer of plain tulle which is the same length as the satin, and the outermost layer, which is embroidered tulle. The outermost layer is about 4 inches longer than the others (all around the hem), which is beautiful when I'm standing, but will be super awkward for dancing.

I hate how bustles look, but I'm torn. Anyone have experience using train pins and/or adding a wrist strap? The dress is super lightweight which helps. I think if I pinned the outermost layer at a few points, I'd be fine to dance, but I don't know if that would look weird. I'd rather not get a bustle, but I don't want to deal with tripping on my dress during the reception.

Super pretty dress! Are you planning to take it for alterations? I think you’re going to have them shorten it, it’s too long in the front for you to walk. I’d be curious if they can cut at the waist and bring it up to shorten it? Then as far as length in the back I do think a loop would be good for dancing.

If there is a seam at the waist (can’t tell with the ribbon) a seamstress will be able to cut it there and bring it up so it is not dragging on the ground and you don’t lose any of the beautiful detail on the bottom.

Oh, that's a great idea!! There is a seam at the waist (the ribbon is sewn down to cover the seam) so I'll ask the seamstress to do that. Thank you both!

Thank you so much!! I almost caved and got a more conventional dress but I'm SO glad that I waited it out for this one.
