Wreck the dress/adventure session?

Colby, on May 9, 2019 at 4:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

My fiance is indifferent to the idea but, I am kind of flirting with the idea of doing a wreck the dress or some kind of adventure photo session in my dress after the ceremony.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Or have you done something similar?

I wouldn't, just because I'd hate to ruin my $2,000 dress. I'd also like to have it so my (possible) future daughter can wear it one day. I'm using parts of my grandmother's & mother's wedding gowns so I'm happy they have kept them.

I'm not a fan of those. And I've only seen people do them after they've gotten divorced... I will be preserving my gown so my step daughter or future daughters can choose to wear it one day.

I wouldn’t, honestly this trend seems super wasteful to me... if you don’t plan to save it for your future daughter or anything, I would say you should donate it to someone who can’t afford a dress! It seems really wasteful to destroy a beautiful, expensive dress when there are so many deserving brides who can’t afford one Smiley sad

I’m not entirely sure of what the adventure photo session entails but that could be cool to do and use the photos as a gift to your husband as a first anniversary gift or whatever. I wouldn’t personally want to ruin my dress but I like the idea of a unique photo shoot in it after the fact.

There's no way I'm going to trash my dress just for a photo shoot...especially after the ceremony while guests are waiting on me. I've seen a few done, but most have been after a divorce. Why spend all that money on a dress then trash it? Would you buy a car just to wreck it?

I’ve only seen wreck the dress done after a divorce so I feel like that would be very off putting and confusing for people who saw photos of you doing that.

The adventure session sounds like it could potentially be fun but I would maybe recommend doing that in place of bridal hoots and not doing anything that would damage your dress (walking in water, etc)

Overall sounds like ya'll think its a bad idea.

I meant it as something my FH and I would to together after our wedding, like days or weeks later NOT the same day. And doing something we enjoy doing together: going hiking, climbing, or rappelling in our attire.

I used to want to do this when I was younger ( like early 20s) but now that I’m engaged and I found my dress and just couldn’t even fathom the thought lol. But to each it’s own! I’m more likely to preserve my dress for memories.

I have heard of this but hadn't actually thought about it. Id totally do it with mine if I could come up with a good idea for it. I wouldn't do it at the wedding though or anything crazy. Nothing that would actually ruin the dress. Maybe just go a bit further with a future wedding photo shoot. At the beach, at a lake etc. and not worry so much about getting it dirty. That's what dry cleaners are for!

I came across this article with some great and creative ideas if anyone wants to take a look. Want a unique guest book idea? How about all the guest signing your dress after the wedding?

I like the idea of a fun after the ceremony photo shoot, but I've never understood the wreck the dress trend. I sent 1500 on my dress and I want to keep it for my future daughters. I wish my grams had her dress so I could sew a piece of it onto mine.

I envy that your family had happy marriages that allowed the dresses to be passed on. My thought was just a way to have an adventure with my FH in a dress I will never wear again.

Personally, I couldn't do it. I'm a very sentimental person( I keep ticket stubs, napkins, ribbons etc)
But I'm also a "live and let live" kind of a person.
I don't judge people for their choices.
So if that is what you want to do and you are ok with it, then I say you have an adventure...but maybe buy a cheapo wedding dress off of wish to destroy??

I like the idea of doing it in a cheaper, less sentimental value Smiley smile

Go to wish.com tons of pretty cheap wedding dresses and veils...well the pictures are pretty not sure how the actual product will look.
I admire your sense of adventure for sure. I want to see the pics...but please not your actual wedding dress 😱 my nerves would be shot and it's not even me ha ha.

My parents are divorced & so were my paternal grandparents, but I still wanted my mother and grandmother's wedding dress apart of the wedding!

    Haven't decided yet.

Maybe I will do it in whatever dress I do my formal engagement photos in
