Would you work at your wedding venue?

SamtasticLou, on July 30, 2015 at 9:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

I had posted that my puppy needs major surgery and we thought we would have to postpone our wedding or elope, but after working on our monthly budget we can make both work. I have been looking for weekend work though just for extras. I had sent my resume to my wedding venue and they want to interview me for bartending. My mom thinks it's a bad idea to work where I'll be getting married. I don't really see the problem, but would you work where you're getting married?

I really don't see a problem with it. It's a great way to earn extra money!

    It wouldn't bother me.

I don't personally see an issue with it--I was actually going to apply to get a waitressing job with my catering vendor (in hopes of getting a discount). The only issue I would worry about is A LOT of drama can happen in the food/restaurant/bartending business (coming from a former waitress). You wouldn't want any possible drama issues impeding on your wedding day.

Honestly I wouldn't or not until after my wedding anyway. I would be afraid of getting tired of seeing it and finding out things I don't want to know about the venue or staff. But that's me.

I don't see a problem with it. Yeah, you'll get a peek behind the curtain which isn't always great but you may get some extra effort put into your event if they know you (and know they have to see you again, hah). Also see if there are discounts. I used to work at the park where we're having our wedding. If I still worked there I'd have gotten half off.

Hmm. Initially I was going to say I don't see a problem, but what IF there is drama between now and April? Can you bartend somewhere else?

My friend worked (and works again) at her wedding venue. That's why she chose it - it seemed to go very smoothly =)

I second the drama thing... I worked at a restaurant for a few months after college before going back to get my master's and it was by leaps and bounds the worst dynamic I've ever worked in. It was like high school on steroids.

If you're the kind of person who can mind her own business and leave the petty shit to the people who live that life, go for it. If you're the kind of person who will get in the middle of drama, no. If you do actually get along well with the other staff members, though, they may also be more inclined to do a good job for your wedding.
