Would this be considered tacky?

FutureMrsFernsler, on September 19, 2017 at 4:33 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 20

So I am having a catered hot buffet for my reception. I have linen table cloths, those gold rim plastic plates and normal silverware would it be weird to get paper napkins ?

Depends on the rest of the decor/theme, but honestly if I was a guest it's not something I would notice. Fabric napkins don't even absorb or wipe well lol. If someone is going to see paper napkins as tacky, they got issues.

As opposed to linen napkins? Not at all.

My sister has a beautiful but budget friendly wedding and even though she went over many of the details with me, the only thing I remember is how much fun I had. I highly doubt anyone will remember this and if they do, that's their problem.

I don't think it's tacky. You can get some really nice looking paper napkins!

If they are the bigger, fancier ones. I would want it to fully cover my lap, which some paper napkins do not do very well.

I think I would be more confused why you splurged on the napkins but not the plates? Go with paper!

There are some really nice paper ones out there. I am going with that since we can trash them at the end of the night.

Nope, just as long as you have napkins available.

I dont think anyone will notice. Place settings and centerpieces, IMO aren't what people remember. Of all the weddings I have been to, I can recall just one table set up.

I've seen really pretty napkins and quite honestly nobody will ever notice it's paper napkins. They are coming to celebrate your wedding not critiquing your table napkins.

We are getting a monogram stamp or a cute saying and adding that to paper napkins to add a little personalization to a simple thing

I'm doing ikea napkins. They're thicker and they're in my colors so that works lol

I don't understand plastic plates and paper napkins in very opulent venues, but if you're not going that route, then I think that linen napkins (assuming that every fabric napkin is linen is a mistake -- some are, but plenty are either durable polyester or a cotton blend) combined with plastic plates would be a little "off". Just pick a paper product that is large enough and is absorbent. Pretty/festive/coordinated matters, but when it comes to something as functional as a napkin, its purpose is more important than its aethestic (and good job on going for real utensils. Plastic forks and knives snap under pressure).

I wouldn't think it was tacky at all. I would just make sure to get a good quality napkin.

As a guest I totally appreciate paper napkins. They wipe things up so much better!

Hey OP, thank you for this post! I'm in the same boat and was trying to decide between paper and fabric. Paper it is I guess

I don't really think anyone would say anything lol. They are napkins. I doubt someone is going to say aw man her wedding was shitty because I had to use paper napkins....
