Would people drink out of Irish Coffee Cups?

I would think people would want a new glass every time they switched drinks, unless the bartender was washing them out & not the guest?

I’m sure they would be willing to since they wouldn’t have any other choice, but I don’t think they should have to.

Really, the only way I think this is okay is if you have the glasses marked with names. You could make it a favor. Otherwise, people will leave their glasses, go dance or talk and come back not knowing which glass is their glass. Otherwise, I'd suggest to go with plastic.

I don't know. I'm just trying to think of ways to cut costs. We can't invite less people than the 85 on our list we could easily go more but had to cut a lot of people but we don't have a big budget and little things like this are adding up to far more than we can afford. It's like $0.65 a glass for any type of glassware rental plus all sorts of added fees.

I would not expect people to keep their same glass all night. People switch drink types, people set their drinks down and forget it, people knock their drinks over etc. Also I wouldn’t want to drink wine or beer out of a coffee mug. If budget is an issue get plastic.

Then how many cups per person do you recommend?

I never thought about people not using the same cup all night because I always do. Cost is the big issue here but FH won't allow plastic because it bothers him for environmental reasons. He'd allow paper but I'm concerned that would look trashy even if we got design printed paper cups.

Our "bartender" will be a family friend who volunteered to do it as a wedding gift. I don't know if she'd be willing to go that far. I just never thought about people cup switching like that either. I never do that but I don't drink alcohol and I'm ghetto enough to drink cola or juice out of the same cup I make a cup of tea in later.

It depends on your crowd, but typically people want a new glass when they switch wine or beer or from water to something else.

But I did a quick google search and it says one per person per hour of reception. Some people will have more some will have less but that should balance it out. I went to a wedding last weekend and switched between beer and white and red wine all night so I got a new glass every time. I also saw at least four glasses get broken on the dance floor! The only time I could see someone keeping the same one is if you have table side wine service during dinner.

Ooof.... and I was panicking over getting 85 glasses now I'm going to need like 200 or more. I don't have the money or patience for wedding planning it seems.

I agree with PP, if it was their only option they’d use the same cup but it would be a little odd

I don't care what type of cup I'm drinking out of and using the same cup through the evening wouldn't really bother me, if it could be rinsed out between drinks should I change what I'm drinking. But, when I'm drinking alcohol, I will have a second glass with water at the same time. And there is always the strong possibility of losing track of which glass is the one you put down. At my engagement party, we used eco friendly disposable cups (they're plastic, but compostable) and had a marker for people to reuse their cups, but that was under 30 people. It gets fussy if you have a lot of people. Maybe it would help your FH to come to the realization that I finally did. This is one day. I live my life pretty sustainably and I decided for ease, I'd just go with it for the one day. I figure all the years I haven't used disposable tableware makes up for it.

There are eco-friendly plant based cups on Amazon. 50, 16ozcups for less than $11. There are other sizes too.

That's how I am so it just didn't occur to me/ boggles my mind that people wouldn't just be cool with one cup all night. It's a very small venue so I don't see how someone could loose their cup. I priced biodegradable but they're still 3x the price of normal plastic if I don't want the big green logo on every cup but probably half the price of rentals so idk. I'm pretty sure the caterer is bringing disposable everything anyways so I feel like he just needs to get over it for a day as well.

These are the cups we used for the party. I didn't even notice the printing until just now when I took this one out to take the picture. I think at least some of your guests would appreciate knowing that the cups are not plastic getting thrown out. I would prefer knowing the couple were trying to be environmentally friendly. And there will also be some who, like me, don't even notice the writing. They're more concerned with what is in the cup. The one piece of advice I have is do not leave them in the sun for hours. I left them out in the bag in the sun the next day (I'm talking most of the day) and they did warp some. But they were great for the party. No problems at all. And I didn't have to feel guilty. Good luck figuring this out. I know it's a tough decision.

Do you really want the guests to have to go to the bathroom and hand wash their glasses if they choose to change drinks? I think you and FH need to see what is more important for your day; money or environmental impact
