Would it be tacky?

Emly, on June 5, 2019 at 9:47 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9

I'm looking for some honest opinions on this idea:

FH has an old 1967 Camaro he would like at the wedding (this was a project car with him and his dad so its very sentimental), we both agreed that we would love this to be the getaway car directly after the ceremony. But I've also been playing around with the idea of having my dad and I drive up to the ceremony in it (its an outside ceremony). Our venue is HUGE with at least 100 acres of open plane and a few rustic buildings here and there (venue is an old historical grounds and i would not be able to hide in any of the buildings before the ceremony.) So I thought this would be a good way for no one to see me before the wedding, but I'm not sure if its tacky or not to roll up in a loud car. Its not like we would drive up right on to the grass, there is a gravel driveway about 20 yards form the ceremony sight, but what are your thoughts?? Would it be more of a distraction than something that's cool?? If we did this I'm not sure how we would go about the music situation.

My other option is to hide out in our reception venue, but then I would have to walk nearly 100 yards to the ceremony spot. (Side note: we will be renting golf carts and have escorts for our elderly guests so they wont have to walk so much, that is also and option to roll up on)

It's not necessarily tacky....but I can see how it would be distracting (if it's loud). If you were to pull up while the procession is happening, then the guests' attention is going to be immediately reverted to you. Therefore, if you decide to do it, then I'd wait until your bridal party is done walking before pulling up. It would kind of make for a cool grand entrance for you. Otherwise, i'd just ride a golf cart from the reception venue.

Could you maybe do a trial run and see if you feel comfortable with it? If not, using it solely as your getaway car would still be awesome!

I've been married to a "car guy" for more than 30 years, so I'm pretty sure I can't possibly say this is "tacky." However, as you and PP mentioned, I'd think it through. In addition to being loud, if you'll be coming up a gravel road in the middle of nowhere, in June, so depending on your location it could be really dry and dusty, the car could create a huge dust cloud -- not great for your guests waiting for you or for you. One more practical issue I'd consider, is my BIL owned a classic Camaro for years and they are really low to the ground. Clearly, you're likely young and in good shape, but I never found a way to get out of that car gracefully. So, especially after making your arrival known through the roar of the car and the possible dust cloud, I'd think about how easy it will be to get out of the car, in your wedding gown, with everyone watching you. If you're good with the logistics, I think this could be super cute given the meaning the car holds for you and FH's family, but some times those "wedding day details" are the things that might trip you up.

If you decide against the car, I'd probably just walk or do the golf cart, depending on the temperature/terrain/etc. Your get-away sounds AWESOME either way! Smiley heart

I think it sounds cool. even if it was loud it's your entrance so it's supposed to make a statement anyway. but i agree with PP that said it could be distracting if it's really loud especially if it's during processional

I think it's awesome, and not tacky at all! What a cool car to come up in and it's great it has a special meaning to you. If it's a super cool car, it could be parked somewhere guests can take pictures by it?

I don't think it's tacky at all!! I LOVE muscle cars!! That would be the coolest thing ever, to roll up in a 67 Camaro!! omg!

I agree with Danielle, though, about waiting until the bridal party is in place at the altar before roaring up in the mean machine!! Just because it's probably loud.

That's what we plan to do anyway! Were going to have my grandpas old tractor there too as a memorial for him so people can use that for pictures too. I mean i could pull up on the tractor too but that would be too much Smiley xd Smiley xd
