So we have a photographer but I won a free engagement session from a well known photo company. Need to know information:

1. Includes free 1 hour on-location session

2. Includes 50 printed 4x6 proofs (that THEY select, not me)

3. Includes $50 credit to use towards products like digital files and other prints

4. Cost of 100 digital files would be $600 (well, $550 with the credit) OUR choice

5. Their normal engagement session with 100 digital files cost $600

6. They cannot release partial digital files as an option

7. They suggested doing their "mini session" which cost $450 ($400) and will include 25 digital files of OUR choosing

8. Our photographer's e-session cost $700 for unlimited digital files... but he's throwing ours in for free with his package. He is also flexible making it a day-after photo session

Is it even worth it to use this free session that I won if I have a photographer? What can I do with the proofs (watermarked)? What would you do?

What are you worried about? Your time? Money?

If time is a concern, skip it.

If money is, DO IT! It will be good practice and you get free prints you can use for the wedding. Don't even LOOK at the digital files. They'll choose the best for prints because they want you to use them, so avoid the temptation of even looking at the digital.

Do they have good reviews online?

Thanks all for your input! It’s really a 50/50 opinion on here!

This company is amazing (we were looking at them to book... until we saw the price) and have great reviews. I actually saw them at a workshop so I got to hear some personal details and thoughts. Even their workshop and expo specials were over our budget. Keep in mind that I didn’t want to skimp on Photography, so that should say a lot about their pricing! So I was already very familiar with them prior to me winning this session.

I like the mentality of going into this with a mindset of just being comfortable in front of the camera and not purchasing anything. We definitely need practice for that!

My fiancé and I just got the exact same deal. Must be the same vendor (from Hawaii). We were super excited, but once we heard the digital files would b $550 we were taken aback. We don’t have a wedding photographer yet, so are considering our options first before we decide.

We opted to not utilize the free session even though we wanted engagement photos AND day after photos (long story but we wanted pictures in a valley with our wedding outfits that we won't have time to take on the day of, hence the day after) but even wanting extra sessions, we didn't use this free session. Not sure if we will end up getting our day after photos but oh well.

I won a few other "free" things from the expo but only used the free bridal manicure (which came out to a terrible deal so be wary!). Our engagement session is actually tomorrow with our photographer so I'm excited about that! Good luck to you and I hope you find a photographer. I think I must have compared about ten and actually met with three before deciding on one. Haha!
