Worried that my dress is too form fitting

K, on September 14, 2019 at 6:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
Had my first fitting a couple weeks ago and my second fitting is in a week. My dress will be taken in at the waist and thighs giving it more of a form fitting mermaid look though my dress is labeled as a sheath. I’m worried it will be too form fitting making my booty look “voluptuous” and I’m feeling self conscious about it. It didn’t feel tight wearing it but in the pictures I took, it looks tighter than it feels. The seamstress said that they always leave some extra fabric in case it needs to be taken out...but I feel so anxious because I don’t want it to be ruined. Has anyone experienced “taking out” a dress??? I’m trying to not think about it too much and just wait until the second fitting but ughhh I just wish I had it taken in a little less. I also think the bustle brings attention to my butt because it’s pinned right under it. I just need to vent...

Do you have a picture? Has your seamstress already taken in the dress? You could always have her wait to alter the bottom portion or make it looser if you'll feel more comfortable.

I'm sure you look amazing either way!!

Just make sure you sit down in the dress before the alterations are declared final and done. You want to be able to sit comfortably, and sometimes making a dress too form fitting causes problems.

Girl, own that booty if that's what the good Lord gave ya. Smiley winking

In my limited sewing history, a dress should be able to be let out another 1-2 inches (up to 1" per side), so it can give you more room, but it will be changing the shape of the dress, so you won't be able to go back to the sheath style.

Are you more nervous about changing the shape of the dress or having people stare at your butt? Either way I don’t think it’s a problem. I’m sure your seamstress is experienced and knows what she’s doing, and will be able to perform the alterations no problem. As far as your butt, what’s wrong with showing it off? I could be wrong, but since you are changing the dress to be a mermaid fit, you probably tried on mermaid dresses and liked the fit. I also can’t imagine you wanting a mermaid gown if you are self conscious about your butt normally. So I think this may just be a little stress about having major alterations done as opposed to actually worrying about your butt. I’m sure it will turn out lovely.
