Worried my wedding dress won’t come in time!

Allison, on January 13, 2022 at 10:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
Hi everyone! I’m getting married 4/9/22. I went dress shopping 8/22/21 and purchase my dress that same day AND rush ordered it for extra peace of mind. I was told it would come no later than January. It’s been radio silent from the dress salon so I contacted the owner and she did not get back to me with an ETA for a week. So I contacted her again. She finally replied (which I find very sus) and is telling me that her “team” is saying the dress will SHIP on 3/1/22 😵😵‍💫 my gut is telling me this is all bad and won’t be enough tome. But I have no experience with alterations… and what if it keeps getting delayed beyond 3/1?

-do I stick with it? Is it possible to do alterations that fast?-do I go shopping again and try to find something off the rack?

I worked in bridal for three years. We would normally schedule alterations 4-6 weeks before the wedding, but I saw it done in 1 or 2 weeks many many times. I’m less concerned about the alterations and more concerned about the arrival date; shipped from where? If it’s from somewhere within the US I wouldn’t expect there to be a problem but if it’s coming internationally (like the vast majority of wedding gowns do 😬) I would be concerned.

I am also getting married April 9. I ordered my dress in March & it was supposed to be delivered by September. The store called ME when they found out there would be a delay (due to a material shortage) & they asked me if I wanted to substitute material, wait on the dress, or cancel the order. The delay would only be a month, so I kept the order & it did come in October. There seems to have been a break down in communication somewhere here. I would find out what happened. Perhaps you should go into the store and speak with the manager and alterations team & be prepared to put on your Bridezilla hat if need be. Check to make sure the order was submitted correctly & find out when they received communication from the designer that the dress would be delayed. If the cause of the delay wasn’t on the part of the store, maybe have them call the designer with you there & see if anything can be done to get it shipped sooner. If not, above poster is correct, that if it ships from overseas in early March, that will probably not be enough time.

Totally agree with us. I would go there in person (harder to dismiss someone when they are standing right in front of you) and discuss the situation with the store manager. It seems really odd they didn’t call you when there were delays. It makes me wonder if they simply forgot to order the dress, or maybe they forgot to order it with the rush delivery. I agree with the previous posters, if the dress is being shipped internationally one month before your wedding, there is a very good chance it will not arrive in time to have alterations done (or will force you to pay a hefty fee for someone to rush the alterations).

I ordered my dress in July, was told it would come December. Called them last Thursday and they told me it was going to be another 3 weeks. It came in yesterday! So I think some places are padding their estimates because shipping is so crazy.

What brand is this? I feel like 9 months and a rush order is kinda crazy. I would try a different brand. I got engaged March 23 2021 and married Oct 16 2021. So I planned my wedding in 6.5 months. I bought my dress in april at a boutique and it arrived first week of September. No rush order. Maggie sotero and I got so many compliments on my dress! Be kind. No one gets anywhere being mean and rude. Ask them to plan for rush alterations and im sure they will work with you. Also, ask for the rush fee back since it didn’t come in quicker. Everything is delayed and stuck in ports. It truly sucks but be kind, take a deep breath and work with them. Maybe your dress is still a sample in the store and they’ll let you have that and give you some money back?

Thank you for all the advice and experiences, everyone! Your thoughts helped me ask more poignant questions. The dress is designed by the woman who owns this bridal boutique and her “production team” is in Tennessee. After many hard phone calls, she has the production team “pushing my dress to the front of the line and it making it a priority” (which is what I thought a rush order meant..?) and she’s guaranteeing a ship date before the end of this month. If it doesn’t, she’s refunding it.

But all of this made me feel so detached and disinterested in the dress. So for fear of it still not coming in time, and because I’m also feeling like it just isn’t the one, I’m going to try on some off the rack options. Never thought I’d be *that* bride who gets herself confused about her dress but here I am!
