Worried about my reception being too crowded

weddingdiva2016, on March 10, 2016 at 8:04 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hey everyone. I chose a reception venue that supposedly can hold 300 people with a dance floor. After looking at pictures of the venue filled with people nline the place really looks like it can only hold about 190 comfortably. I did a little research on wedding wire and they say the venues maximum capacity is 275!!! Why on earth would my wedding planner say 300 with a dance floor??? I knew it sounded too good to be true..

Anyway my real question is, if I am inviting 250 people how many people will realistically show up? I understand that everyone's family and friends are different, but I am curious to hear what your numbers invited and then who actually showed up were.

Thanks!

It's not safe to assume a certain number or percentage of people will show up, because you may well end up with a 100% acceptance rate. Always plan for your whole guest list to say yes to be on the safe side. ETA: Words.

You know your guest list better than us. Did you invite a lot of OOT guests or older family members that are unable to travel? You need to be prepared for 250 to show up...

You have to plan for 100% attendance. I would speak to your wedding planner as something seems weird here. Is your planner affiliated with the venue?

There is at least one thread on this topic per week. The general consensus is to expect everyone invited to show up. Is the 275 with or without a dance floor?

Yes the planner is affiliated with the venue! I am actually going to the venue this weekend for a brunch and will speak to my planner. Good thing my stds aren't sent out yet! But to answer your question I do have a lot of out of town guests especially on my fiancés side.

Don't count on any one not showing up.

When your wedding is might also affect your numbers.

A 15% decline rate is standard but not guaranteed - plan for 100% acceptance. We have a similar issue, but the venue works weddings all the time and I'm trusting their professionalism and knowledge (besides, the contract is signed. Nothing to be done now!)

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I will speak with my wedding planner just to make sure. As I said before my save the dates haven't gone out yet... I could always cut a few people :/

I think you'll be fine, since you invited under what your planner said and online research said.
