Worried about my Dress Alterations Not Being Done

Tinkerbell, on August 19, 2023 at 7:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 2
Hi everyone! I am getting married Mid-October and took my dress in to be be altered at the beginning of August. The first appointment went fine and the seamstress retained my dress to work on it further. When I went back in for my second appointment two weeks later the shop was closed. I called, she forget the appointment and we reschedule for the following week. She has since canceled that appointments, rescheduled and canceled again because she is sick. I’m getting worried that I honestly might not get my dress back at all, and am untrue of how to handle the situation when she calls back later this week to reschedule. I’ve called other alteration places nearby but many of them are booked. Will I have time for this seamstress to complete the alterations, or should I try to find a new one?

Do you know what alterations still need to be finished? I would contact the store where I purchased the dress and ask them if they have any seamstresses they recommend. If you can get an appointment in with someone else, I would immediately go get my dress and take to someone new. If you can’t get in elsewhere, I don’t think you have an option other than telling your current seamstress that you need the dress finished by such and such a date. If she can’t guarantee the dress being done, I don’t know what you will do

Your final fitting doesn’t need to be done until the last couple weeks (and shouldn’t in case your body fluctuates at all). So the concerning part here is all the cancellations. She has your dress, right, so you can’t even take it elsewhere until you get it back? I would start looking into appointments at seamstresses in nearby cities if they’re all booked where you live, make the appointment with your current seamstress when she calls this week, and let her know that if she can’t go through with this appointment, you’ll need to at least meet up with her to get your dress back so you can take it to someone else.
