Worried About Dress Tearing on Dance Floor?! Help

Taylor, on August 24, 2023 at 6:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 2
I have a fitted wedding dress that is pretty tight on my hips. I think it’s called a sheath dress? that I got from David’s Bridal. It’s not mermaid because it lays straight after coming out from the hips. I’m getting it bustled for the reception and I’m wearing short heels. I choreographed this wedding entrance with my dance friends and we intentionally made it so that it’s not crazy complicated and doesn’t involve me dropping low or anything like that. I will however have to bend slightly or lean over a little bit but it seems completely reasonable because we kept all that in mind.

I just went to the alterations appointment a week or so ago and felt like it was a little tighter on the hips area than I remembered. I definitely could have been just psyching myself out (I worry a lot), but now I’m terrified that if I bend or sit in the dress that I’m going to rip in the hips area?!
I would appreciate any perspective from people and hopefully some reassurance that dresses are made to move in I would think?! I wear a size 10 dress and carry most of my weight in my booty with a slim waist. I’m 5’5” and about 150 lbs and have a muscular build - I look more like I weigh 130-140. Do I have to just not really move, dance, or sit all night? I don’t want a reception dress because I love mine and only get to wear it once. I think I’m being dramatic… help lol.

When you were at your alterations appointment, did you try sitting in your dress? Definitely do that!! At the least you’ll be sitting for dinner (when you could bloat if you’re prone to that type of thing). If you can comfortably sit, then from what you’ve described, your dance should be fine. But I would be very concerned and ask your seamstress to make adjustments if you can’t comfortably sit in your dress.
