Wording to say we’re having a limited consumption bar?

Gen, on March 5, 2019 at 3:32 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
So my FH and I decided that we are going to only serve wine at our cocktail hour/reception (our venue is actually famous for its wine and our reception is in the room where they do wine tastings lol) and our reception is during lunch so we didn’t feel the need for more alcohol than that. We will be paying for everyone’s drinks, but paying on consumption per drink (not actually an “open bar”).

I am probably being too knit-picky with myself haha, but I am trying to figure out how to word this on our website. I put “will there be an open bar?” as an FAQ and the response I had was “we will be hosting a limited wine bar during cocktail hour and the reception” because I want to make it clear that guests won’t have to pay for their own drinks, but I feel like using the word “open bar” could be confusing since in my mind when I hear “open bar” it means all types of alcohol are included?

I’m definitely overthinking this lol but do you think my wording for the website is ok or should I phrase it differently?

I think saying wine will be hosted during cocktail hour and reception is fine.

You could say "Open Wine Bar." Keep it simple, and gives all the info needed. However, you really don't need to prepare guests for what you plan to serve. We are only doing wine & beer, and aren't putting that information anywhere on our website or invites.

Hahaha. The good news is our venue is a hotel and there is a restaurant with a bar upstairs so if people REALLY want something else to drink they can go up and get it themselves. But it’s the middle of the afternoon so I feel like hosting hard liquor is unnecessary, and neither FH and I are huge beer people and he has some friends who would probably down like 10 beers if it was offered to them lmao so a luncheon with wine provided was definitely most conducive to the environment we want :p

Are other drinks available for purchase? I'd say "The bride & groom will provide X types of wine for guests. Beer & mixed drinks will be available for purchase."

Is it at a winery? Maybe say something like “xxx wine will be served throughout cocktail hour”. Is there any option for alcohol during the reception?

I would say 'Open Wine Bar'. Knowing that there is only wine (or beer and wine) actually determines my outfits for weddings. I really only like red wine, (can't drink beer) so I wear a dark outfit if I know I'll be drinking red wine all night. If there are cocktails, I'm a gin and tonic girl so I can wear any color.

So yeah, I'm a klutz and always spill so I pick my dress color based on what alcohol I'll be drinking..... hahaha
