Wording of invites

Alyssa, on October 29, 2019 at 3:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

What's the proper wording for invitations in this situation?

My FH and myself are splitting the cost of the wedding with my parents who are covering probably 50% of the cost. We wanted to put something like FH, "son of....." however his dad is deceased and his folks divorced when he was a teenager. This seems like it might get too busy and wordy to put all in one invite. Am I wrong, or do we just put our own names on it and leave the parents off it?

Together with their families John Doe and Jane Doe request the pleasure of your company at their wedding.

I agree with "together with their families." If you want to specifically mention the parents by name, you would say "son of Jane Doe and the late John Doe." Being divorced doesn't make them any less his parents.

You can do whatever you want. I would be grateful and say

    Mr and Mrs. Bride

request the pleasure of your company

    at the wedding of

    Joan Bride

    and

    John Groom

son of the late Mr. Groom and Mrs. ex-Groom (whatever name she uses)
