Wording of Invites, please be my proof-readers!

Autumn, on May 8, 2017 at 7:56 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Hey everyone! It's been so long since I have posted! I finally switched to an earlier shift at work, so hopefully I'll be making some more appearances around here. FH and I finally decided on our invites, but now I've got some questions about wording. Ignore the formatting of our names, the text editor on WPD wouldn't allow me to make the font smaller, but that'll be fixed on our proof.

A few things that I'm unsure of...

- should 'two thousand and seventeen' be capitalized or not?

- I feel like the time should read half past five o'clock in the evening, rather than in the afternoon.

What do you guys think?

No, we aren't getting married in a church. What type of phrase could replace that? "request the pleasure of your company?"

I was also thinking that I preferred two thousand and seventeen to not be capitalized, but I just wasn't sure.

I also feel like 5:30 in the evening sounds better

Very pretty invitations! There are different guides out there, but I usually defer to Emily Post.

    A couple of comments:

    1. Year should be "two thousand seventeen" (no and, not capitalized)

    2. Emily Post advises leaving this off, but I see it included on most invitations. Evening begins at 6, so 5:30 is technically afternoon and wording is "half after five o'clock"

@Autumn - You use "request the pleasure of your company" when the wedding is not in a church.

I agree about capitalizing the year, I think it would look better in lower case.

Half past five o'clock in the evening is fine to me. Does evening start when the sun sets? That is a real question; I would like to know.

I know you mentioned that you are planning to change the size/formatting of your names, but some honest feedback: when I read your draft, I thought your name was Autumn Tuller and I wondered why you had left FH off of your invitations. Will the final version have first and last names? I assume your guests know who you are, so maybe they aren't necessary. But that would fit more with the formality of the rest of your invite, IMO.

@cabo thank you! I will make those changes!

@carousel yeah it'll include both first and last names of FH and myself! The formatting was just something I couldn't fix in their basic edit mode Smiley sad
