Wording of entree options on RSVP cards.

Bride2Be2018, on August 24, 2017 at 6:55 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

We will be having a duet plate of steak and fish as our entree. Obviously we will have vegetarian as the other alternative. How do we feel about the "Surf and Turf" verbage? Should we just say Steak and Fish? I feel like people might circle one if we put that but also am not sure if all people understand what surf and turf even means.

I think surf and turf is fine. Most people know what that is. Otherwise steak and (insert fish) would be ok. But I would specify the fish.

I agree with surf and turf. Plus, it's pretty cute.

Only thing is I have gotten shrimp as my surf most times I've ordered it. So in that sense maybe the specific fish should be mentioned.

I would specify the fish too. Some people can have some types of fish but not others.

Surf and turf in my mind definitely had shellfish and not regular fish. I agree with being more specific.

Most of the time when I see surf and turf on a restaurant menu, it's referring to steak and lobster, or maybe shrimp. If this isn't what you're serving, I'd recommend specifying the type of fish rather than calling it "surf" so that your guests will have accurate expectations for what they are ordering.

Also, I think it's important to be specific because of shellfish allergies (my grandmother will go into anaphylaxis if she even touches shellfish) and because there are a lot of people out there who don't like all types of fish. Some people are fine with shrimp, but hate salmon.

As Pps have said, I would specify both the fish and the veggie option. Especially due to allergies.

I definitely agree with specifying what the fish option will be. If the menu said surf and turf I would be expecting steak and lobster (or maybe steak and shrimp, if it was a lower budget thing). You want people to know that it's fish, and you might as well be specific about what fish it is since some people will like or dislike certain fish but not others.

Agree that surf and turf, to me, means steak and shrimp. I would specify the type of fish.

Thanks all. The options are Beef and Grouper so we will put that.
