Wording for Small Shower Invite, no registry....

Kd, on June 24, 2015 at 9:27 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

So my sweet mama is forcing me into having a shower, but I don't really want want one (I'm just happy to be getting married and having our parents pay for a small wedding, I'm 31 and have a lot of kitchen items and we live in a tiny apt). I got her to agree to a shower where I'd request fun, party items: little serving dishes, cocktail napkins, wine (cute items you can get at Marshall's for cheap). That way, my guests can save money, I can save space, and we can having fun looking at unique items that were picked out. BUT: How would we word that on an invitation?? "Please God, no more crock pots!"?? .....Thanks, all!

....ps I wouldn't register for these, just let folks choose. Do some people prefer a traditional registry tho? I just hate the thought of asking for specific gifts.

I think people prefer to go off a registry...these things can be found at BB&B, Macy's, ect...sounds like you are preferring gifts for entertaining over traditional items.

If you don't actually want gifts, have her host a bridal tea in place of a shower. If all else fails, I would highly recommend a small registry you do on line. Or do a themed bridal shower, "kitschy kitchen shower" or something which indicates what type of gifts guest should bring. But really a small registry isn't going to kill you, and it's better than getting a whole bunch of junk you'll just give away later.

I put together a very small registry for the shower which will disappear the day after the shower. Just throw some small things on there, your guests will appreciate it and I'm sure you can find a few things you would like to replace, upgrade, or add to your household.

BTW, I'm 30, live in a small condo, and have been on my own for 7 years and still managed to put together a small registry.

Most people prefer to go off a registry. You can get good serving dishes at a place like BB&B... or if you do an amazon or Target registry you could even register for board games, air mattresses, more unconventional things like that.
