Wooden wedding bands

Jennifer, on April 27, 2017 at 5:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

My FH has expressed interest in a wooden wedding band because he wants something different. Also he doesn't wear watches or any other type of accessories (besides a fitbit), so his thinking is it wouldn't look like jewelry. I have been looking on Etsy and Amazon and found a few I like. I'm wondering what the durability is for these type of rings and if the ring sizing is any different? Is/has anyone bought a wooden wedding band for their FH either from Etsy or Amazon? If so what Etsy shops have you looked at? I'll attach a picture of one I like and have shown my FH:

I would be worried about water potentially damaging a wooden ring :/

H originally wanted a wooden ring but decided against it because from what we read, they're pretty high maintenance and somewhat fragile (cracking, warping, water damage, etc.).

This is what FH got. Wood and titanium. So far he loves it. I'd recommend going to a jeweler first to make sure you have the right size. It has a coating on it to protect the wood. Like a really thick coating so I'd be surprised if it gets ruined quickly. We're not setting our hearts on it lasting forever though.

I would worry about it would look like years down the line. Wood has the potential of splintering and that would not be a good thing.

@littledemon and MMB, that's what I am worried about as well. They look cool but I'm not sure if it's practical lol.

@constance we definitely have to go get his ring size first before I order anything! I have seen the rings with metal around the outside and the wood is in the middle so that may be a better option. I like the ring you got your FH

Your FH sounds just like mine (Fitbit and all)! We looked at Staghead Designs. They make rings out of whiskey barrels and other kinds of wood. They have really nice stuff and seal their rings.

Not sure if it's your style but they have antler rings too. They aren't our thing, but if they are yours check it out Smiley smile

And actually, I'm not even sure we ever got around to figuring out if it could ever be resized later if need be. But yeah, I agree. Not practical.

Northern Royal has koa wood and titanium or high tech ceramic rings. FH chose the high tech ceramic and koa version. He loves it ... its lightweight too.

@kdoubleu whiskey barrels? Now that's a neat idea. I'll need to check that out.

Thanks for letting me know the shops everyone! I'll be doing some research tonight

I have heard they are fragile. Go look at the website Embr- they have a tungsten band with a wood grain look that would be different, plus the inside of their bands are different colors!

FH band is a tungsten one from there with a bright blue inside!

@Cass just looked up Embr and showed FH and he really likes them especially with the orange on the inside. He likes the wooden box you can buy for the ring too lol. They are having a 50% sale right now... too bad I don't have his ring size yet

@jennifer I know! I love the idea. We are big whiskey drinkers. Some of the rings let you pick the brand of whiskey the barrel is from. We're honeymooning in Ireland so we may do Jameson!

@kdoubleu that's a nice touch to add to the rings. I say go for it while you are over there! We were deciding between Ireland or Alaska and decided on Alaska but Ireland is on my list!

They look cool but i have heard they break so easily and you have to have upkeep in them. We went with tungsten.

I ordered a titanium ring with a wood inlay for DH from Stonebrook Jewelry. They do sell on Etsy, but I ordered directly from their website. They had 40 different types of wood to choose from, so I was able to get his favorite kind of wood, purple heart, which was a surprise to him after he just requested his ring have wood in it. Because the wood is inlaid, it has a protective finish over it and the thing is waterproof. There's also a lifetime warranty on it so they'll do any repairs and refinishing at no cost.

Resizing is a different issue. Wood rings can't be resized. Stonebrook at least has a policy in place for this where you don't pay full price for a replacement ring in the new size. DH gained a little weight in the two months between when we received his ring and our wedding day, so we are a little too familiar with the size replacement policy.
