When I set out to make my own wedding centerpieces I searched HIGH and LOW for an honest evaluation of how to make wooden boxes for my wedding centerpieces. On top of that I wanted to know exactly how many flowers and bunches of greenery to buy. No where gave me a complete answer, it was more like, figure it out trial an error, and some of us WANT TO FREAKING KNOW NUMBERS!!! You feel me?? 
So, there was a few ways I went about this. I figured out how I wanted my tables to look, and which flowers I wanted to use. My original plan was to just fill in the centerpieces with carnations alone as they are about 1/3 the price of roses... Except I wanted to be true to my vision for my wedding so I went ahead with my dream idea of Roses, Seeded Eucalyptus, Dusty Miller filler, and Ranunulus flowers. (I was going to order Garden Roses instead of a basic rose, but realized for a cheaper price I could achieve the same sort of look with Ranunulus'.
All of these numbers for flowers and boxes are based on having SIXTEEN centerpieces! AND
I made a large bridal bouquet, 5 bridesmaids bouquet, 4 corsages, and 15 boutonnieres.!!!!!! I also had some roses left over I put in vases and spread them through the reception venue.
*You will need at least a hammer and nails, wood glue, saw, paint, paint brush, and patience!
As I was researching the type of wood I wanted to use, I knew I didn't want any type of thick wood. Buying a long box from Micheal's or Hobby Lobby could have been an option but the longest I saw that was affordable was only 12 inches long. The tables at my venue were 8 feet long and I knew 12'' was not going to cut it for length. SO, I went to the local hardware/ wood store which was Menards! We chose to make the boxes 16 inches long, 4 inches high. I found the thinnest of thin wood which was 1/2 thick Poplar wood by 4'' wide. Link below:

We used the link above wood for the sides of the wooden boxes and chose the 1/2 X 6'' for the bottom/ base of the wooden boxes.

We had to use a special pin nail gun since the wood was so thin, but thankfully we had that on hand as well as pin nails. You could also use wood glue which would have been our second option. We purchased SIX for the bottom and base of the boxes, and for the sides we purchased 15 for the sides to give us some room in case of error. We used white paint we had on hand, which was great! SO total to MAKE the wooden boxes was around $135 after taxes for 16 boxes. Making them $8.44 a piece. (If anyone has any questions, just ask! Now I am wishing I made a youtube video to show you how actually simple it is. After they were all assembled and had a coat of paint I used my trusty hot glue gun to line the boxes with plastic. (I used the plastic that covered the wooden pieces that came with the wood to save money, but you can buy any kind of plastic and line it with it. YOU WILL NEED to do this if you are planning on using real flowers so water doesn't leak through.)
Now to the fun stuff, flowers! Sam's club had some of the most reasonable prices and had some pretty good reviews. My only complaint was I had to peel a lot of the petals off the flowers because they were brown. Not "my wedding say is ruined brown" but they needed some water and life in them for sure. I WOULD BUY THEM OVER AGAIN IN A HEART BEAT because they were so pretty after sitting in water overnight. Just a warning your heart might sink a little when you see them. I ordered 125 White and 125 Light pink. (The white looked more like a cream instead of white, but I made it work bu not adding it into MY bouquet because my dress was white.) So be aware of that as well. I will attach the links to everything below 
I also purchased 140 Hot Pink ranunuclus and 140 light pink ranunculus. THEY WERE THE SHOW STOPPERS. Everyone was commenting and asking what they were and raved about them! They were not only a great filler, but looked amazing! I will warm that they are VERY soft stemmed and you must treat them with care. BUT you won't be disappointed! And lastly I ordered 48 ct. floral foam for the boxes. It was cheaper to buy from Sam's but you will have some left over. My nieces gladly took it home with them, since I guess floral foam is the new thing kids are playing with! With all these flowers I snipped the ends at an angle and stored them in large buckets overnight in fridges. It helped them stay cool and come to life! I added the flower food which came with the flowers.

I knew I needed greenery, I debated between silver dollar eucalyptus and seeded. I decided on seeded because it added volume and it was a build in filler and I knew it would take a lot to fill in the boxes. I am SO glad that I chose seeded! I decided on 15 bunches but in honesty would recommend getting 20! I didn't have enough left over to add to my bridesmaids bouquets or to add to my welcome sign, which was a huge bummer for me. This was SO easy to work with. I snipped the ends and stored it in a giant bucket in the fridge overnight after I received it.

Basically as follows I had about 110 stems from the 15 bunches. I already knew when I started that I didn't have as much as I wanted. I did make my centerpieces rather full. For each box I used 5 stems of eucalyptus. Meaning for all my boxes I used 80 stems for the boxes. It was SO worth it! SO it was about $130 for the eucalyptus for the boxes and $20 for the eucalyptus for my bouquet. It is hard to say since each bunch doesn't come with an even amount of stems, sadly.
At a flower shop I purchased 20 dusty miller plants at $.50 a piece. You can order this through fifty flowers as well, I just used it as a filler since it was so cheap. You will definitely need either another kind of flower or filler like this.
For bridesmaids, I chose to do 5 white roses, 5 light pink roses, and 5 ranunculus each. Totaling to 75 stems used for bridesmaids.
For my bouquet we went crazy! I had 50 pink roses scattered in 2 bunches (about 30 stems of seeded) and 20 hot pink ranunculus!
For boots and corsages we used a mixture of empty buds and roses. Totaling 20 roses and about 10 ranunculus. We used white roses and hot pink and light pink ranunculus.
The flower boxes each had 6 roses 3 white and 3 pink. Totaling 96 roses for the boxes. As we did boxes last, we knew to use the rest of the flowers in them. I am estimating we had 335 ranunculus that we scarred based on colors and how much we needed filled. We did USE ALL OF THEM. SO totaling it all up for the box material, floral foam, flowers, and greenery the boxes cost $43.82 per table. It was more than I was expecting to pay, I will admit. If

I will say this was my first and only attempt at planning a wedding myself and I had ZERO experience with flowers and it was honestly easier than I thought although it was time consuming. I am hoping this long long post will help someone out there who has no idea where to begin!
