Wood oven pizza for reception?

I am getting married in a romantic, rustic barn at a winery. We are on a tight budget for dinner. Our ceremony will be at 4pm and I imagine we will eat around 6. What are your thoughts on serving pizza (multiple different pizzas, salad and probably a few other sides like veggies and maybe polenta)...

I am getting married in a romantic, rustic barn at a winery. We are on a tight budget for dinner. Our ceremony will be at 4pm and I imagine we will eat around 6. What are your thoughts on serving pizza (multiple different pizzas, salad and probably a few other sides like veggies and maybe polenta) for the wedding dinner? I still want the feel to be romantic and I want everyone seated at tables to eat. While I LOVE pizza I don't want it to take away from the romance. For some reason when I think "pizza" I see everyone on in plaid lying on blankets in the vineyard (not that any of that is bad, just not my vision for this particular day Smiley smile) what do you all think?

ChristineKyle1108 - I plan on giving about 2 months notice and paying in full ahead of time. It's not a huge order (maybe 10-12 pizzas) but I know thats still quite a bit.

Well. The problem is. In my state/county, they don't do courthouse marriages. You can't get married in a public space without permits. My area has particularly abnormal weather patterns. The wedding is in march, but it could be snowing/hailing like it was this past year or 80 degrees the year before. We can't plan for an outdoor option, so we had to choose a building. I'm for one not paying 450 bucks for a building for 30 minutes. Our group of guest have been very understanding as they know we are planning this on a very limited budget. And if they don't like it, they don't have to come. We're making it known that were having pizza beforehand in case it does sway peoples decisions. But if they care so much more about the food than fiance and I that they don't want to come, then I don't mind them not being there. I don't care if all that people think about my wedding is that its tacky for having pizza. All I care about is that I marry my fiance and we have a day he and I are happy with. I was trying to be light-hearted when I first spoke up. But like I said before, (with a $200 budget for everything - entree, sides, drinks, tableware for 40 people) this is simply the absolute best we can do.

$200 of $2500 is for food? Why is food < 1/8 of your budget? That's the problem. Just elope if you don't care about your guests.

@Future Mrs H!, If it's just about you and your fiance, why are you even inviting guests....? Why should your guests even attend if you don't give a hoot about their comfort?

A bit messy. If I were in dress clothes, I'd feel less comfortable with finger foods.

Wow, thank you so much everyone for your thoughts. I truly appreciate each and every opinion!! A few people asked about how it would be made - and the caterer (not sure that is the appropriate term) comes with a large wood fired pizza oven and cookes pizzas right there for an hour and half. I totally agree the presentation will need to be spot on decorations for the wedding will need to up to par to keep the romantic feeling. I think it does help that the guy and his wife come with the pizza oven and make it there... I will let you all know what we decide and how we decorate and set up if we go this route. Thanks again!!!

The reception is to thank your guests. Doesn't seem like you really even care about them being there.

Hey, it's your wedding! I love pizza lol - can I ask how many people are at your wedding and what your budget is for food? Because I am on a tight budget as well, and I found an awesome catering company for cheap and all review gave them 5 stars and said the food was excellent. I just dug deep into internet searching to find it. Smiley smile

I don't agree with some of the negative comments on here. $2500 is a tight budget. There's a venue, food, liquor (for most) DJ/band, dress, decor, etc. There's a lot that goes into a wedding and with that budget I'm not surprised at all that you have a $200 limit for food. All your money has to be divided some way. May I suggest possibly getting some of your family together the week prior and possibly making home cooked meals and have a buffet? That would also save you money and that way if you start changing your mind on pizza, you have an outlet Smiley smile but again, I love pizza lol

I'm guessing the $200 doesn't include beverages for your guests, or salads/veggies for those that don't eat pizza? Hope you don't have any gluten free or vegan guests...

It does include several beverage choices. Salad. A pasta side I'm making. Breadsticks or rolls. And I am having several gluten free pizzas (and pasta) as well as re-asking about dietary restrictions on the RSVPs. If we have guests who prefer vegan, I will ask if any of those choices are okay with them and if they aren't we will accommodate them the best we can. But we have asked everyone previously before we made this choice and not one person said they were vegan, gluten free, or had any issue with pizza when we asked them. Maybe 10 people aren't family? So they know we care about them. And they know we are doing our best, which all someone should ever ask for.

And we did want to elope. It's our family's that insist on a wedding.
