Wood Branding Ceremony

Emly, on October 17, 2019 at 5:10 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 2

For those of you who are doing/ have done the wood branding ceremony could you share with me the logistics?

This isn't a super popular thing yet so google did not help me much Smiley xd

My brother is making our iron so we are all covered there but how did you heat up your iron?

Did you use a blow torch or keep it in fire?

I don't think having a kiln onsite is feasible so we are thinking about a blow torch (not an itty bitty one, it would be one that is attached to a grill sized propane tank) but im not sure that would work.

It would be easier to buy an electric branding tool and have a brand made for it but having my brother make one is much more special to me.

What are your thoughts? Smiley smile

So we planned on doing one. Bought the custom branding iron (Etsy), branding gloves, branding wood, rented the fire pit, wrote out a little blurb for the officiant, told the venue, etc. Then it rained ALL DAY on our wedding day and we had to move it inside (so we obviously couldn't do it anymore). We rented a propane fire pit (venue didn't allow wood burning fire) and planned on heating it for around 1 hour prior to the ceremony. Ours had a silicone/wood handle so the handle wouldn't heat like the iron would. We didn't have a blow torch, we planned on keeping it on fire while my MOH held back my dress (I'd stand beside my husband anyway while he basically did the branding with my hand on top of his). Then we wanted our guests to sign the branded wood as our guest book after. I would do a test run at home if you want to maybe use a torch!

Hey Emly!! This is such an interesting idea! I have actually never heard of a wood branding ceremony, but I love that you would have such a special keepsake from your wedding!

As the pp mentioned, I would also suggest doing a trial run so that you can be sure that you can heat it up enough to brand your piece of wood.
