Won a free honeymoon!?

Olivia_7, on September 15, 2017 at 5:15 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

So a few days ago I went to a Bridal Expo and of course there's a ton of vendors there and they have you fill out a bunch of stuff and enter you to win a whole bunch of stuff. I was like sure why not, I won't win. But I get a phone call today telling me I won! I won 2 wedding bands from forever more jewelry, 2 engraved champagne flutes, and a 3 day all inclusive vacation! FH and I are so excited, but after doing some research I'm finding that this "vacation" might just be a scam. :/ Has anyone ever had this happen, the vacation is at VivaWyndham resorts which I know is a timeshare. I just think they might harass us about a timeshare or that it's a scam altogether. So now I'm not so sure. Smiley sad

    Scam Smiley sad

Sorry to hear that. Happened to us last year. Almost same exact terms too.

Come to find out they actually call every single person who signs up with them.

Just a ploy to try and get sales

Also -- signed up at a bridal show last year and my email address was sold to a realtor, from a vendor from that bridal show.

Was kind of ironic, because I'm a realtor. When I asked him how he got my email, he told me that he had purchased it from a vendor at the bridal show that I attended.

Be super careful with your information

It's actually the reason I stopped going to Bridal Expo's. My mom told me how when she got married, it was such an amazing experience, but now, it's about the industry and there are no real 'prizes' or 'door prizes' anymore, just scams.

I had that happen and it wasn't altogether a scam, all we had to do was attend a presentation on time shares and tell about 4 or 4 people NO. We still got the free vacation but always forgot to book it, so it expired lol. I didn't have my passport anyway. We didn't lose anything from it and it was def a learning experience for me.

After attending a few Bridal Expos, I noticed I was getting tons a phone calls and I'm sure some of them were scams. Your phone number gets on a list, they will find it. We did legitimately win a free engagement photo shoot, which we did get and use. However, we still had to pay a couple hundred for copyright and prints, so it really wasn't free....

You probably have to sit and listen to them try to sell you a time share for an hour or 2 but you get a free trip. We did one through Hilton and ya it sucked but we just said we couldn't afford it and we were done.

Sorry the VivaWybdham is a scam. They do usually give you what they say but there is a catch and you'll have to sit through a sale pitch. I sat through a few and have gotten 2 free vacations. I didn't pay for flight or hotel but did pay for food which I had to get from the resort and upgrades

My FH and I actually went to this presentation and it was a sales pitch to buy very very expensive cookware. It was not a timeshare. As far as the "free" vacation, thats a lie there is all these rules and blackout dates (can only use on weekdays) and you have to purchase the flights and pay for the resort fee each day. The wedding bands and champagne flutes are not all completely free either you still have to spend on taxes and shipping. With the rings you had to pay shipping for each ring I believe it was $50.

A real prize does not require you to spend so much as a nickel to redeem it. If you have to pay anything to redeem your "free honeymoon" turn down the offer.

I did something very similar. We were required to attend a high pressure sales pitch, but actually really liked the products. We bought, love what we have, and are planning our honeymoon with the trip we received. It really depends on your mindset going into it. If you expect everything to be 100% free then you will be disappointed, but if you expect there to be some cost (taxes for instance) then you might be pleasantly surprised. We were Smiley smile

I'm with Katie, it all depends on your mindset. I attended the cookware presentation, bought nothing and got a trip to the Bahamas that I fully intend to use with FH.

I "won" the same thing. Did some research...what everyone above is saying is true and we didn't go. Scam in my book!

Yep if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. Such is the case with us, as well. We went to the expo after a potential entertainment vendor told us he and his company would be there. We are glad we went in that we saw them perform and did not choose them lol. However, I started getting phone calls, "hey remember how we spoke about you having LASIK done?"

"Nope, since I don't qualify for LASIK and had PRK done a couple of years ago." *click*

We hadn't even given information to the vendors there that included my phone number, only to the area where we were told to sign in for the event. Turns out they sold our information. And I started getting mail from random vendors. Learnt our lesson there!

I thought it had to be too good to be true. :/ Mad I even went to this expo I keep getting tons of e-mails. One vendor even chastised me for already booking a photographer. Like sorry I'm a planner and like to get things researched right away and booked?
