Winter wedding

Chloe, on August 3, 2021 at 4:49 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
Our wedding is in February in Germany (so hopefully there will be snow) and we want to do something a little different and really embrace the winter wedding theme. We're decorating with lots of candles, twigs with led lights, some pine branches, thistle and cotton flowers. We will choose the menu in November and I'm not worried about that, but I honestly have no idea what to do about the drinks... We thought maybe to replace the champagne reception with mulled wine or Irish tea, but I'm afraid this would look a little tacky and christmasy... And I'm clueless when it comes to other drinks - our venue offers us two "signature cocktails" (which pretty much comes to us choosing two classic cocktails we want served, they are not creating anything from scratch) but tbh, knowing our guests they'll all be drinking vodka, gin-tonics or beer. Also: cake. What would be a nice look and flavour for the cake? Does anyone have any ideas how to embrace the winter wedding theme without turning it into a Christmas party?

That sounds beautiful. First, I think mulled wine or warm cider would be great if you want to serve them -- those drinks don't say Christmas to me, though I am in the US so cultures may be different. For cakes, you can do something like dark chocolate? I went to a winter wedding once and they had white chocolate raspberry cake. I would obviously stay away from gingerbread, cranberry, etc. I would also consider details like your wedding party's outfits and invitations; stay away from Christmas colors here, especially red.

Hi! In wich part of Germany will you be getting married ? I'm not far 😉
So I would think about ginger bread, some cinnamon cakes, carrot cake, there's also a special cheesecake and stollen seems to be their cake for Christmas.
For drinks : mulled wine, hot chocolate, even hot orange juice or beer with spices. For a toast : wine or champagne with some syrup... However, not too much snow every year😉, but it depends.

Thank you, dark chocolate actually sounds like a great choice, not too sweet and pretty much everyone likes chocolate. And we're definitely staying far away from anything red. Warm cider sounds good too, since mulled wine is always served during the time leading up to Christmas and on Christmas markets, bur cider is not as common. So really, thank you for the great ideas!

Hi, we're in Bavaria, so there's a good chance of it snowing in February... Fingers crossed!
I haven't thought about cheesecake for a wedding cake... Might be fun, especially since we want to serve the cake as dessert.

I really wanted a classy Christmasy wedding, so I would say don't worry about that fine line. People will love whatever you love! Winter cakes make me think of like a spice cake.

I am also having a winter wedding. I went for Burgundy, silver and ice blue for my colors. I think mulled wine and cider is a great idea! I am also doing coffee and Bailey's. We are not doing a cake because my fiance does not like cake, so we are doing cupcakes and a creme brulee.

That sounds good! Are you doing anything else? We're thinking about starting the reception outside, with a few fire pits... But that may backfire if guests get too cold

I was actually looking at Pinterest and found this cake here... I like the "snowy" look of it. While the cheesecake is undoubtedly "lecker", it's a bit too casual for our big fat American/German/French/Polish/English wedding... Which reads like an absolute nightmare now that I see it written down 😂

Aaaah ! If you say POLISH, it has to be HUGE, that's for sure ! LOL

I had my wedding in France and it was hard to do it the Polish way already, so... good luck with all that ! Smiley xd

I went to a winter wedding a few years ago that was after Christmas as well, so they wanted to avoid the whole Christmas theme. I've actually been to 2 now that I think of it! Mulled wine sounds wonderful, I don't associate that with Christmas at all, but I realize people's traditions may be different. The two I went to used a lot of neutral colors, like browns and grays and tans. At one of them, the placeholders were pinecones, which was cute without being too Christmassy.
