Winter/outdoor weddings...heating for guests?

Why not just include on the invitation that it's an outdoor wedding? They'll see that it's in December and hopefully think to check the forecast before the wedding so they'll dress accordingly.

I'm in Texas too, and one of my friends got married in Wichita Falls last weekend during the big freeze. She didn't have much time, but she got several of her family members to donate blankets/quilts for the wedding and it turned out pretty nice!

Maybe rent or buy some gas patio heaters? It may be a little rude to your guests to have an outdoor wedding in the middle of december with out heat.

I'll definitely include it on the invite That's a good reminder! I just want to add a little extra something in case a coat isn't enough. Especially for the ladies in dresses! I like the blankets idea, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't too weird haha. Thanks!

You can buy hand or feet warmers pretty cheap at sporting goods stores. They have little disposable ones. You could wait until the week before and see if you'll need them.

How long is your ceremony? Honestly if its any colder than like 50 degrees, I wouldn't want to be outside.

We haven't planned our ceremony yet, but I don't think it would be longer than 30-45 minutes. I want to keep my guests comfort in mind, of course...I just reeeeeeeally want it outside if at all possible. I don't have a lot of specifics for my wedding, but outside has been how I've always pictured it! It's so hard to plan for that in Texas!

I like the hand/feet warmer idea! That wouldn't be expensive at all.

My ceremony was outside and we had freak weather- it was 40 degrees, totally weird for that late in the spring and that late in the day. They were pretty cold which sucked. If I had any idea I would have rented two heaters. How big is your crowd? Even if it is a large group maybe you could rent just two? You can usually reserve them until 1 to 2 weeks before the wedding. They make hand and feet warmers you can put in your gloves that last a few hours. Those might be helpful. Yu may also see if anyone you know has one of those utility heaters used in work shops and such, the only issue is whether that would be safe...

This may not go with your theme at all, but what about hot drinks? Is there anyway you could have hot drinks available outside of the ceremony area they can pick up while waiting? If it was really cold that would be so nice.

We'll have about 75-100. I didn't know you could rent heaters! Maybe I can look into a few of those and have hand warmers at the ready.

I would have to ask the venue if we could do hot drinks...but a hot tea/coffee station sounds pretty awesome to me.

Ours is outdoors as well and we are making sure to tell everyone we can and also have it on our website. Which btw people said no one will look at it and as of today, we have 270 views! So it looks like it is being used!

We are also renting the heaters for about $45 a piece. I know it is an extra expense that you don't account for, but depending on the weather, it may be necessary. Our reception is outside and dancing and photobooth inside, so I'm hoping people will dance inside and come outside to cool off and not have too many complaints. I guess I'll find out in 2 weeks!!

About the blanket idea - do you want your photographs of your guests wrapped in blankets with their finery? Just a thought...

If they know it's outside, they'll (hopefully) dress appropriately - so I would let them know.

Okay, I like the cold but at the same time, I would be afraid of people leaving early because they are too cold. Furthermore... people with illnesses like arthritis might really suffer.

I would splurge on renting 2 heaters (usually like $40-80/piece) orrrrrrrrrrr go with the cute fleece blankets. Just make sure to do SOMETHING! :o)

My friend recently used Carrier Rentals for a winter outdoor wedding. It was beautiful and comfortable being in this chilly winter weather! Also would be good for summer weddings (air conditioning)
