Winter Engagement Photo Attire

EGD, on February 11, 2021 at 11:24 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

My FH and I just won a contest where we get a free 1 hour engagement session with a local photographer!

I was hoping I'd be able to schedule it in the spring, but the photographer wants to get it done this month.

I HATE the cold ( we live in CT and currently have 2 feet of snow on the ground with more to come over the next week) my winter attire is leggings and a big hoodie and uggs.

I have NO idea what to wear for an outdoor snowy engagement shoot. Any recommendations?

You could do somewhere indoors if you don't like the snow! Like a coffee shop, or somewhere with a fireplace, your home, or an ice rink. Otherwise, if doing the photoshoot outdoors, I would wear a cute scarf and/or hat, warm leggings, a sweater, etc. Or you could do a long sleeved dress! Check out Pinterest for winter engagement photos to see what other people have worn, and pick out an outfit that's both warm, based on something you like, and something you feel comfortable in.

Thank you!! My FH LOVES the snow, so convincing him to go inside would be a battle I'm not willing to fight since he doesn't even wanna do this anyway and is just doing it for me!

I like the idea of a long sleeved dress! Thanks Smiley laugh

Google "snowy engagement pictures". There are a ton of different photos that pop up with different outfits. If it is snowing during you session, a cute coat and toboggan would be cute. I would have loved snowy engagement photos! I am sure they will be so pretty.

You may have already done this, but a "free engagement" session is often kind of a scam, so be sure you understand exactly what it involves. Sometimes the session might be "free," but access to any of the images might cost a lot more than you'd expect. Hopefully, the offer you've received is legitimate, but if you look at old posts you'll read about many couples who were unpleasantly surprised by what their "free session" actually cost them. Especially if the photographer is pressuring you to schedule at a time that isn't really your preference, it might be a red flag. Good luck!

Thank you!! I did my research on him, he recently started his photo business (within the last year or so) and this is his way of getting his name out there. I found reviews from other couples who have won other free shoots he's offered, he actually had 5 winners this time around.

We weren't pressured into picking a date/time that didn't work he just stated he wanted to get all the free shoots he offered done this month (I believe this is something he does on a monthly basis) He actually said if the dates/times didn't work for us we could work something out.

We've already booked date/time and he is researching places for us to do it, no credit card information has been asked of us and we've done video conferences and phone calls with him!

    Hello Fellow CT Bride!!!

We just did our engagement photos in December at Gillette's Castle in East Haddam, so it was "wintry" even though technically it was still fall. I wore a white sweater, jeans and some boots I borrowed from my mom. My fiance wore a plaid shirt and jeans with his work boots. Posting some photos so you can see! But it sounds like you're more casual like I am, and you ultimately want to be comfortable in what you are wearing. So maybe you can do leggings and a long sweater instead of a hoodie? I won't lie to you, I almost wore Ugg boots on the day of our shoot, but decided against it. So I see no reason why you couldn't wear Uggs! We also brought a blanket, which I would HIGHLY recommend, even if you don't want to use one, because if you do happen to take photos outside, it's nice to snuggle up together in a blanket while you're walking to different locations. Where are you having them taken?!

Hi Beautiful! I definitely get what you mean by "still Fall" in December, this December weather was crazy and now we're sitting under 2 feet of snow! I love your outfit!

Definitely something I would wear and be comfortable in!

Gillette Castle is beautiful, I always forget about that!

I'm not sure where we are going to do them! I filled out a questionnaire with the photographer with what we like, and sent him my pinterest board and he is going to figure out where the best place to take them is!

Wear what you normally do in winter. The photos should reflect who you are as a couple, including your clothing choices. Many couples are not fancy dress up people but yet they choose that anyway.

That's awesome that he's willing to help you find a location like that! Just remember to be comfortable in whatever you wear and you can't go wrong. Some people get really dressed up, but that wasn't me and my fiance, so that's why we chose to wear what we did. Snowy photos would be BEAUTIFUL too, if you choose to do an outdoor area!
