Winter Brides, Where To For Your Honeymoon!

Ellie, on September 25, 2019 at 10:08 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 12

Where are my fellow winter brides headed to for your Honeymoons! My FH and I can't decide if we want to do a shorter trip to a Caribbean island then some time potentially in the spring/summer go to Italy OR go to New Zealand/Fiji now.

We feel like a trip to the Caribbean will be relaxing, less expensive and fun but we're not sure if we want a trip that's more far reaching since it'll be my FH's first time out of the country! We also would love to visit Italy during a warmer season, though we're not sure if things would work out timing wise/vacation time etc.

New Zealand/Fiji has a lot to offer we can get to explore, see museums, see this cave that has some cheesy sentimental value, and also get the beachy vibe but it's way more expensive and would definitely be a splurge. Since both of us have neither been on a flight for too long the 20+ hr flying time seems incredibly daunting especially since my monthly visitor will be making an appearance..Though we wonder if now is the perfect time to do the trip because we'd like to get started on a family ASAP.

We're so torn, we're open to any ideas at this point, so I'm curious to know where are other winter brides going!

    Hey Ellie!!

It sounds like you have a lot of amazing ideas for your honeymoon! As you mentioned, there are a lot of outlying factors that will ultimately inform your decision. I know you mentioned that it will your FH's first time leaving the country. How comfortable is he with flying? Has he flown within the US before? The Caribbean sounds like an amazing option for immediately after your wedding, but in my opinion, you don't want to run the risk of not going on your Italian trip later! Italy is an amazing country. Rome is probably one of my favorite European cities that I have visited, I've been 3 times! The food is phenomenal and if you're into art and culture, you will have the best time!! 😍

On the other hand, New Zealand is completely out of this world! I was there last year and it's so stunning. The lifestyle is so relaxed and chilled out. They are coming into the height of their summer in January/February so you would be visiting there at the ideal time for some sun. If you guys are Lord of the Rings fans, I would 100% recommend doing the tour of Hobbiton on the North Island! What caves do you want to visit?

Yeah the it seems like we might be able to get the best of both worlds with that option in one go! I guess the main concern is the flight but maybe it's worth doing anyway!

Thank you so much for your input! My FH is pretty comfortable flying as far as domestic flights go, although he is pretty tall and hates if he's not in the exit row because he needs the leg room.

And wow, Rome is definitely the place I want to visit most in Italy! Though as you mentioned we're not quite sure if we'd be able to make it over with work schedules and such during the warmer months. Do you think it's worth the visit even in January?

Seems like from what your saying is that New Zealand/Fiji is the way to go if we can get through the flying aspect! We love Lord of the Rings, thanks for the suggestion! We were thinking of visiting Waitomo Glow worm cave.

Before we were a couple, we had seen a picture of it and it looked like being in a field of stars... I playfully said that we should visit it in a few years and my FH (then just friend) made a comment that if he were married by then he'd have to ask his wife about going on a trip like that. I remember being so annoyed about his comment because I thought it was his round about way of saying he wasn't interested in me anymore (I had put him in the friendzone years before). Really it was him being his adorable overly practical self. Now that I'm going to be his wife, we thought it was fitting that we go see it together!

Right now the plan is to do 3 nights at a resort along Lake Superior and snuggle up. lol. We're getting married in December in Minnesota, so it's about a 4 hour drive north, but has things like a restaurant and spa on site, so those feel like fun bonuses.

Then we want to go to Italy & France & England next summer!

Rome will be just as beautiful in the wintertime, it just totally depends on whether warm weather is a priority for your honeymoon. I think that no matter where you decide to go, you will have the most amazing time.

I was actually in the Waitomo Caves while I was in NZ! I did a tour through it, it was breathtaking, and also a lot of fun!!!

We are going to Barcelona in January! I have been to Europe in the winter before and I LOVE IT. It isn't as cold as it is here and you deal with way less people in the areas.

I would definitely go to New Zealand. That's where we wanted to go and I heard it is amazing! In my opinion, you can enjoy a beach anytime.. I would want to go explore an exciting new place with new cultures, foods, and places to see... which is why we are going to Europe!! Smiley laugh I hope you have a GREAT time!
