Winter accessories?!

Brittany, on January 31, 2020 at 8:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
So, I'm having a March wedding. My dress is strappy, so I'll be cold. I'm always cold, too. I originally got a gray faux fur stole and it fits pretty snugly. However, I remembered that my mom has a 1940s mink coat (dark brown) that her late friend gave her. It's still in really good condition. I put it on and, not gonna lie, I did the same half-twirl I did when I found my dress. Now I'm not only torn between the stole or the coat (which would be my something borrowed), but also when and how to wear it. Ceremony? Down the aisle and then hand it off to my sister? Reception? Any opinions? Keep in mind, I think vintage fur is acceptable since it's usually older than I am. And who doesn't want to feel Old Hollywood Glam on their wedding day?

I'd say this would be your preference! What seems more natural?

If it were me, I would not want to walk down the aisle wearing it just to take it off and then put it back on. At the altar there will be so much happening and flowers being handed back and forth, and unity candles and what not. I would wear it before the ceremony, and then after for pictures FOR SURE and then at the reception. That's natural for me though!

I love that you're incorporating this into your wedding, that is so special!

Thank you for your reply! And for not condemning the fur 😁. I've been a collector of vintage fashion since college, so those who know me would not be surprised by the coat at all. I'm trying to work out the details of wearing it. Your suggestion is very logical and I like it a lot. Where *would* I put it after walking down the aisle? Would it look weird to my guests to have the dress covered up? I'm also trying to protect the fur because I do not need to be haunted by the spirit of a feisty Jewish grandma!

For the ceremony I would think a stole, bolero, cape, or shrug of sorts would work best and show off your dress the most. I'd rock your vintage mink coat for some photos and maybe at other points, but think your dress should be really visible throughout the ceremony itself, at least as much as it can be without you freezing!

True, I do love the dress. It's inside and I'll probably get overheated being the center of attention, because that still happens, so going without it for the ceremony is probably a go.
