Wine/beer quantity for 100 people

Gen, on May 31, 2018 at 1:07 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 9
We're having just a wine and beer bar for our cocktail hour/reception, but how much of each (red wine, white wine, bottles of beer, and of course bottles of champagne) do you think we need to have for 100 people? Definitely don't want to run out but don't want to spend more than necessary either! Anyone done this before?

This site is really helpful in figuring out how much you need: https://apracticalwedding.com/wedding-alcohol-calculator/

I'll just say that for my daughter's wedding, which was a beer and wine bar, the calculator told them to buy about 90 bottles of wine for 150 people. They didn't end up buying 90, but they did buy cases of it, and the reception ended up with only 4 bottles of wine consumed. Not sure how much of the beer keg was used. None of us know why this was the case, but it was surprising!

Eventbrite has a beverage calculator we are using for our welcome reception. It suggested 32 bottles of wine and 144 beers for 80 heavy drinkers. We purchased over 40 bottles of wine and the beer hasn't been purchased yet but Total Wine was having a sale this weekend that couldn't be beat at 20% off.

It depends on your crowd, but I'd get more beer than wine. The rule of thumb that I've been told is one drink per person per hour. Obviously that changes depending on the amount people drink or don't drink though.

Thanks! Did you mean 32 bottles of wine total, or 32 red and 32 white?

I've heard that too but we're also having a lunchtime reception so I'm feeling like people aren't going to be having as much as 1 drink per hour. I'm so afraid of running out though!

That's so strange! I guess you don't have many big drinkers lol

32 total was recommended based on the calculator. We ended up going heavy champagne and whites, and rose, and just a few bottles of Pinot Noir. It’s the summer and should be a two hour party.
