Wine Tasting Honeymoon Destinations

Lisa, on November 1, 2020 at 5:37 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 19
I’ve posted about honeymoons in the past but my fiancé and I are really trying to narrow down a destination or two to choose from down the road.

We both like wine so are thinking or cities where we can indulge and relax while enjoying their local wine.
Do you have any destinations you’d recommend? We know of Napa/Sonoma but are looking for alternatives.
Any input is appreciated! 🍷🥂

Depending on what you're looking for, only wine or wine and other things, and the type of climate, there are several areas of CA. Yes, of course, Napa/Sonoma; it's beautiful, but fairly isolated. So, if you really want wine tasting, some good restaurants, and to stay in B&B type accommodations, it's a great choice. If you want to do other things, I think the Temecula wineries, east of San Diego are an awesome choice. You can do a day or two of wine tasting/experiences, but then spend several days in San Diego -- it's beautiful and a medium-large sized city with lots of interesting things to see and do. You'll likely have the warmest weather in SD. Another CA option is the central coast. There are tons of wineries between Santa Barbara and Paso Robles, but also other things to do and explore in that area. SB is a stunning resort city with beautiful beaches and fine dining. You can travel north to the Santa Ynez wine country (the old movie Sideways took place in that area and brought a lot -- of not always welcome -- attention to the wineries there). About 90 minutes north of there you'll have the Paso Robles wineries (north of San Luis Obispo). The cool small beach town of Cayucos is a nice "off the beaten path" place to stay, not too far from PR. Beyond that, you could visit Hearst Castle in San Simeon. We've done all three of those trips multiple times (and lived in SB and SD). They are each wonderful, but each has a different focus and opportunities. You can't really go wrong! Smiley heart

Sedona AZ...incredibly beautiful, and a lot of wineries (and winery tours!) within reasonable driving distance.

What part of the country are you interested in? Oregon and Washington both have great wine regions. If you want to come to the east coast, western North Carolina has a great wine region, as well as around Charlottesville, VA.

We were thinking about Sedona but fear it might be too warm in early October to enjoy being outside.

Highly recommend Sedona and the Verde Valley wine trail. It's really unlike any other place I've ever been!

It sounds like you may be West Coast-based, but I've heard great thinks about the Finger Lakes in NY. It will not be incredibly warm, but the fall foliage up there will be beautiful and there's lots of great hiking opportunities as well if you're into that. My FSIL and her new husband went up there for their minimoon at the end of September and had a great time!

Other East Coast vineyard options - the Finger Lakes in upstate New York. Long Island NY is also an up and coming wine scene. South Jersey has some good ones (I'm getting married at one, so I'm slightly partial haha).
