Wine on the Tables

K.M., on July 20, 2017 at 5:45 PM Posted in Planning 1 10

I'm beginning to meet with caterers as we inch closer to the one year mark. I really like the one I met today. As we were discussing different details, they asked if we would want to do table wine as well as wine at the bar. I know our venue would allow it but I've never seen that done before. I'm not in anyway opposed to the idea. Has anyone done this or decided against it? The caterer said they have their servers watch the tables at dinner to make sure no one runs out. Our meal will also be plated if that matters.

Super common to serve wine at the table, especially during dinner!! Guests love it and it could even allow you to close the bar during dinner which can be a cost savings, depending on what your bar plans are.

We love wine... especially with food. So we plan to serve wine with dinner as well as offer it at the cocktail hour. FH and I have personally chosen the wines so they will pair well with the food.

I went to a wedding that did this. It was nice to not have to go up to the bar to get a drink.

I would have them serve wine at the tables but I wouldn't leave bottles on the tables. That is really, really wasteful.

    Haha @olivia same

I'm liking the idea. I've always hated getting up during dinner to go get a drink and then majority of our guests are wine people. So much more convenient to get drunk at your seat

    Thanks everyone!

We're doing it. Like @JessicaE I'm Portuguese so drinking wine with dinner is a given. The bar will still be open if people want something else, but hopefully it means guests can sit and relax during dinner.

Most weddings I've been to have a bottle of red and a bottle of white on each table. The waitstaff keeps a close eye and will pour for guests and replace a bottle if it is empty.

Bouncing off of what @Celia said, our venue has more of a "pour where needed" approach. We ordered enough for 2 per table, but it will be served by staff where it's needed. Some tables are mostly kids, non-drinkers etc. while others could easily polish off 4 bottles.
