Wine Glasses/moscow mule mugs/other glasses

Catrina, on August 21, 2019 at 12:00 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8

I was planning on doing personalized wine glasses with the guests names on them for their favors and their glasses for the night. Is a personalized wine glass something guys would want or should I do a pint glass, highball glass, beer mug instead? I also considered doing all Moscow mule cups as well.

Are most of your guests local or from out of town? All of those are a pain to travel with, unless they’ll be bubble wrapped and packed securely for your guests (or made of plastic). That said, the pint glass is most versatile. We’ve gotten a couple pieces of glassware as wedding favors and never use the few we managed to somehow get home from the weddings. Further, I don’t usually drink the exact same drink all night long at a wedding... imagine starting with a glass of wine and then shifting to a beer from a wine glass... 🤷‍♀️ I wouldn’t wash it in the hotel sink to take home with me either, it’d be left at the wedding or hotel.

Most people here are strongly against favors like this (and non-edible favors in general), but I'd definitely take it home with me. I think the big sticking point here is if you expect guests to use them throughout the night unless you're only serving one type of alcohol. (I've been to a winery wedding where they only had wine and non alcoholic beverages, so a wine glass would have been fine.) If you're serving multiple types of alcohol and are set on a glass of some kind, I'd consider making them look pretty as favors, and not use them to drink out of during the reception. If you have a lot of out of town guests, a Moscow mule mug might be better since it couldn't break during travel.

If it's personalized with THEIR name that's pretty unique because most people personalize the glasses/cups with the bride and groom's name and date. I think pint glass/highball glass/beer mug would be cool and more gender neutral, but also just getting a moscow mule cup that wasn't even personalized (idk how you would as they're usually bumpy on the outside) would be really cool also! But to me moscow mule cups are only for that drink in my mind; would be strange to put say beer or wine into. I think if you truly wanted to have them use it as their cup for the night also that pint/highball would be best

We are only using one type of glass for all drinks. I’ve seen lots of people do a mason jar but that doesn’t quite fit our theme. The bartender will rinse glasses between drinks that are different from what they were previously drinking. Just not sure if men would like wine glasses with their names on them.

I'd guess most guys wouldn't care about having a personalized wine glass - I think drinking beer out of it seems like the weirder part. Maybe something like a tall rocks glass would be more versatile?

We got the groomsmen engraved AleHorn tankards. I believe if you're a first time customer you get 20% off your order.

I agree with others that there's not really one type of glass that works for all drinks, and restricting guests to one glass all night isn't really practical. Caterers typically bring x number of glasses per person for events, because people use new glassware for each new drink.

But if you are set on this and am just asking whether people in general would want a personalize glass to take home, I think there's no way to figure that out in advance. That's why favors get left behind in droves. There's no one thing that every wedding guest wants to take home.

Beer will be in cans or bottles so that’s not really a concern for me. Just didn’t know if I should waste my time personalizing a wine glass for the men.
