HI, everyone!!!

This is my first post, woohoo!!!

Due to unexpected budget constraints, we have decided to do just a wine and cheese reception for our October wedding. The ceremony and reception will be in the same place.

I need some advice on timing Smiley smile

We want to do a traditional reception with all the fun stuff, but I don't know how long it should last. The ceremony should only be about 20 minutes.

So here are my questions:

1. How long should the actual reception last?

2. If it's during the day, can I still rock out and party with a DJ? It seems like that's more of a night time thing to do.

3. We would love to have an after party for friends our age that want to hang. How long after the reception should it start?

Thanks so much!!!!!

I second KB, but think it would be nice to add some meats to the wine and cheese package even if you're having an afternoon wedding. Maybe also add some olives and nuts? That would give everyone a good variety. Also, you can definitely still have a DJ in the afternoon. I would think that if you guys are dancing, people would dance with you. But, I'd prioritize food and drinks over music.

I think your only options are to do your reception at 3pm or 8pm, like others have suggested. You said you wish you could figure out how to do evening ... the only way is late evening and be specific on your invitation/enclosure card ... "cocktails and hors d’oeuvres to follow". We went to a 7pm reception once with no indication that there was no dinner. There was literally goldfish crackers on the tables and wedding cake - that's it! Along with open bar and DJ. We were starving.

What about after 7 pm and have a ceremony with candlelight? that's what my parents had.
